Help to complete my sound system for my Supra....Rear Fill?

Hey everyone!

I finally ordered some audio stuff to replace all my stock audio. I am no audiophile guy but I been reading a bit on a few subjects such as rear fill speakers.

I went ahead put the money I was going spend in rear speakers and put it towards buying a quality Front component speaker set for a better "sound stage". Most of the reading I have read is that Rear fill is just not necessary, but I am so used to hearing my audio with rear speakers I may not like no rear fill.

There was a suggestion to run 6.5 half mid bass drivers in the rear to go along with my components up front. I will not be using at sub box in my Supra I just want to replace my stock speakers... the Supra does come with sub in the rear (5x7) lol..

Here is some of the audio stuff I have already bought. I am still looking Rear speakers and a decent amp and feed back on what type of speakers I should put in the rear..

HU: Pioneer AVH-P3400BG

Front: 6.5 components - Image Dynamics CTX65cs

Sub: Sound Stream subwoofer (5x7)

Rear: TBD

AMP: TBD - (JL XD700/5)??

Any suggestions or feedback is very much appreciated.

Thanks!

If you weren't going to use rear speakers you could use the XD 3 channel amp. What year is your Supra? I took a guess based on your avatar and put in 1995, and the Metra Vehicle Fit Guide says you have 5.25" and 2" speakers in the front and 6.5" in the rear.

My thoughts:

- You'll want a "real" subwoofer. If you do in fact have a 5x7 sub that's going to be absolutely pathetic sounding. JL Audio makes some really nice small loaded subwoofer boxes that might be just what you want.

- If you really can't add a subwoofer box then rear speakers will definitely help raise the overall loudness and make it sound more full.

- If you can fit 6.5" speakers up front you might want to consider 6.5" subwoofers.

for the money, I say go with a different amp. The JLs are expensive for what they are
Thanks.. any suggestion on a decent priced amp? I know a JL amp will fit under my passenger seat.. since my stock amp size is 9 5/8's" long, 7" wide and 2" tall... so any amp under 2" tall is good.

Trumpet -- you are close to the year! Its actually a 1994 Supra Turbo. I have custom made speaker brackets already made to fit a 6.5 speaker up front. 2" are the stock tweeters..

I know that 5x7 sub is gonna be lame, but remember I am coming from 1994 stock system where all the cones are blown out lol so I am sure anything is better than what I have.

I didn't want to get to crazy on my build since my Supra is not driven too much but I would like a nice SQ system when I do play music... I probably will upgrade to a Sub box in the rear in the future (it will be a while) but just not now.

Thanks for your feed back!

take a look at these ,and if you like them hit me back CDT Audio ES 03 Megabass
got a budget
My lows10... thanks for the link.. but do those Speakers require a sealed box or anything? If I did get those.. I would be putting them in my rear quarter panel as shown below..

Budget wise for a Rear spear and Amp ..Just depends really.. I like to stay under $600, but I am a bang for the buck type guy too. I like cheap and good - if that's even possible haha!!

not my picture but a Supra.

This sounds almost exactly like what I did for a customer with a 1998 Pontiac Firebird. The speakers were almost all destroyed with the foam surrounds falling to pieces. He didn't/doesn't drive the car much but he wanted a nice sounding system. Literally anything would have sounded better than what he had. I put together a system with CDT audio speakers, a 10" CDT sub in a stealth box, and 2 Massive Audio amps.

Back when I was into the small car tuning scene the Supra was a godly car. There was a gentleman nearby who had a Supra like yours plus a late '80s model Supra as well. On the MKIV he went to a massive turbocharger with nitrous plus a built auto ****** and a tubbed rear. Sick, sick car.

IDK the heights of these amps off the top of my head but the Alpine PDX are small, zed audio has some nice ones, cadence xa, PPI phantom (these are back ordered though).

One thing about having an amp under the seats is that you might lose a lot of cooling. So consider that before you put an amp under there

it looks like it is a sealed enclosure.also the hd subs would work fine for you too
also look at the massive nano amps ,the nx3 or 4
Sweet! Thanks Mylows10.. I'll take a look.. I am really liking those subs you linked me for my rear.
