help supporting rear deck???

Cut the deck in the middle, don't cut into the support bars (part right under window/where rear seats are) there should be a thin area in the middle. Then make a baffle thats 1"-1.5" (Overkill is recommended) that u would mount on the bottom side. Then another baffle on top (3/4"-1") and u can drill holes and make like a sandwich with rear deck in the middle. Or u can just mount the bottom baffle to the metal in the car already. Preferably use bolts and nuts that have a good hold. Use something like a 1/2 inch thick bolt, and if ur using a baffle on top as well it'd be better if u used t-nuts or something that actually gets into the wood itself. Use as many bolts as u think it would take. Remember the main point is to keep the integrity of the baffle as strong as possible.

You don't have to use fiberglass, u can always use expanding foam to seal the area's around the baffle, it'd be much easier. Then after the foam has cured u can cut off whatever extra parts that are sticking out and than if u really wanted to u can spray paint it black or something. Of if ur planning on making a cover it wouldn't matter anyways.

Pics of the rear deck would be nice...

As for stiffing/strengthening it...it all depends on what you're working with, there is no sure fired way to make it hold 40 lbs...I would imagine metal supports around the hole all under the dash is the only way to get some real support without going threw many extremes.

ah see

i want to use my existing rear deck and just make it support it without being able to notice it my rear deck is 21" from back seat to window

Well he cut a bigass hole, using a t-nut kit mounted the subs to a baffle, that was screwed to part of the rear deck that was left. Looks like a fairly thick baffle.

It looks like he didnt use any bolts, but instead drilled a hole in the metal/wood and ran a screw in there.

Edit: I see some bolts in the back there.

i want to do that but without cutting 90% of the rear deck the car is almost 30 yrs old so i kinda wanted it to seam somewhat like it was made to fit there

Ya, I haven't seen the setup personally, but I'm pretty sure he has more then just those screws. I know im gonna do more then just screws //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Edit: in the first picture u can see some nuts/bolts toward the back window.

enough screws and he could have done it, I did see the bolts a lil later, but ya jumped on the post button pretty quick.

Weld or bolt 2 pieces of angle iron UNDER the rear deck, meaning the trunk side.

1-1 1/2" AI should be fine. Go side to side with them, one along the front and one along the rear, so the sub has room to fit between them. If you can weld them in tie into the sheet metal on the sides of the trunk, like the inner fenderwell or whatever.

No one will see them and the rear deck will hold a few hundred pounds no problem...
