HELP: Subs WAY too loud

I feel like this could have also went in the HU section.. But anyways.

I brought my car up to a local car audio shop so they could set my gains all correctly on my new amp.

Once they finished they asked if I wanted to hear it. Obvious yes. Turned it up to about 15 out of 25 I believe and it set the car alarm off directly next to us and literally made it hard to breath.

Keep in mind I was not expecting ANYTHING like this when I chose to put 2 Type R 12's in my car.

The real problem

These things are way too loud. I've turned my HU Subwoofer volume at ZERO out of 15 and it still can't be turned up to anything past like 15.

What am I not doing correctly on my HU to turn my woofers down? I want to quiet them down so I can actually be able to hear the song I'm playing, lol. Do I need a bass knob?

U need a 4ch amp so u can hear the vocals. Or turn the gain on the amp down alittle. And turn the sub out on the HU to the negative

im assuming you are running stock door speakers with no amp? theres your problem. They cant keep up. Replacing them and amping them as well as adjusting your sub amp gain should solve your problem

are you talking about the gain on the amp? That's why I had them set it all up because I didn't want to adjust it terribly. If I turn that down the subs will be less loud? Sorry I'm pretty clueless on this type of stuff. Just started getting into car audio this month lol.

im assuming you are running stock door speakers with no amp? theres your problem. They cant keep up. Replacing them and amping them as well as adjusting your sub amp gain should solve your problem

Not stock speakers, but I don't have an amp powering them. They aren't very nice.

I think if I just turn the gain down on the amp I will be good. I just thought I wasn't supposed to mess with that once it got setup lol.

Remember what the gain is set to now as a point of reference. You can turn it counterclockwise from there until the level is acceptable for you. If you need to turn it back up, just don't turn it past the point where it is now. TS-A speakers are pioneer's entry level, but they can still get pretty loud when using an amp. Talking from first hand experience.

Definitely need to turn the gain down. That's my problem. Can it damage my speakers at all by having it quite low? Or it can only damage them if it is set too high

Turn the gain down. No, you won't damage them by having the gain too low.

Use some common sense. Do you blow your speakers if you don't have your headunit all the way to maximum output??

you can mess with it all you want...its yours!!lol

But,since you have no experience with adjusting gains then i understand your concern. I feel they should have set your gain to match up with your front stage as much as they could. And once you upgrade your front stage,then they could readjust

Awesome man, thanks so much. I'm going to make a mark on my amp so I never go over that level with the gain!

I really probably should get an amp for my speakers. I'm just not sure if my alt could handle more.

No problem, I just don't understand why people think turning volume down will damage things

You made an alarm go off with two type r 12s and I couldn't do it with 4 OA 15s. Seems legit.

Actually the G is there entry level ones. The A series is there main stream line with the D line being the next higher.
