Help! Quitting smoking

Well. I came in this morning from my wake-up ciggy and the wife told me she'd let me buy the component of my choice (up to $400) if I quit smoking. Not like I wouldn't buy one anyways if I felt the need, but at least I wouldn't have to listen to her piss and moan at me for several weeks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Seriously, I need to quit. I'm 31 with an 18 month old daughter and have been smoking a pack a day for 10 years. Added up, that's over $10,000.

Problem is I'm horribly addicted. Tried to quit several times in the past. Tried the patch, gum, herbal stuff, even Zyban. I think it's mostly in my head, because I will tend to smoke more when I'm upset, angry, even bored. That's the worst, the bored smoker. I need a mindset change, but have no idea how to go about it.

As Denis Leary said, "I LOVE to smoke..."

I am in the same boat. Man it sucks. I also promised my wife I would quit before our next baby is due(oct.). So I need a solution as well. I have been smoking since I was 14. I am now 25. Smoking is the worst, yet I love it so much.

Well, if you wanna go about it the gradual way; I'd only allow yourself a certain # of cigs a day, and only at certain times of the day. Gradually start smoking less and less of each cigarette. Say, one day you smoke the whole cig every time. 2 Days later, you only smoke 3/4 of each cig. Couple days later, only smoke 2/3 or 1/2 of each cig. And as you start decreasing in the amount of each cig smoked, start cutting down on # of cigs smoked each day.

Or, you could go cold turkey. Mind over matter....quit being a fvcking pussy and just put your mind to it and overcome your weakness, pussy. ( )

LOL. Yeah I think cold turkey would be the only way I could do it. Time to break out my mind tricks and kick this shit.

I quit cold turkey. Smoked for 4 years bout 5 a day when I quit.

You need somthing to kick you in the *** to quit. Your health, the health of your daughter/wife. Impact of your health on there life. Or go run 5 miles and see how you fare...

I can't even run 2 miles. Maybe I should start smoking. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

if you smoke around your kids you should put a bullett in your head.. my rents smoked during pregnancy and still do and i have terrible asthma...

now, back to smoking, to over come the "bored" smoking habit... chew gum, chew on a straw, chew something... replace that cig with something that will give you the "act" of doing it.. sure the nicotine is addicting, but it is a social addiction as well... you smoke more around smokers, you sit down to talk you have a cig, etc...

PICTURE YOUR KID/KIDS SUFFERING BECAUSE OF YOU... whether it be cuz u give them health problems or you have emphazima by the age of 60 and they have to watch you struggle thru the last years of your life...

ITS WORTH IT, so quit being a ****** and do it for yourself, AND your family

I don't smoke around my children and never have. My wife does not smoke. I am sorry your parent did that is not cool //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif But yeah I do need to just do it, and stop putting it off. Easier said than done though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

Heh Kali, lesson I learned very quickly: never, never make promises to the wife. Chances are good you'll break them and she'll get pissy.

Squeak: I did try the quota thing and it works for awhile, but as soon as something bad happens in my life I break right through it. I do have clinical depression and related problems, and while I'm not trying to use that as an excuse, it raises the bar a lot higher when trying to do something like this. But thanks for the tough love...cvnt. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cuddle.gif.bd1b29c179c0482f8313dbd790b74c94.gif

Run? what's that? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif I'm in great shape muscle-wise, but can barely make it up a few flights of stairs before I start wheezing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif
