help, pxa-h100 hookup- no sound

I'm a complete newb, [rant] I bought an IDA-x305 for the ipod functions, but it sounded worse than the old Eclipse deck It replaced. So it seems you need a seperate unit just to adjust the crappy EQ wtf //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif. [/rant]

I hooked up the pxa-h100 and I'm getting no sound...

  • I've changed the switch underneath to EXT AP
  • I've connected the Ai-net cable from the HU port to the HU
  • I've tuned POWER IC off in the deck
  • I've reset the deck multiple ways (power on, power off, x100 conneced/not connected)

The unit powers up and IMPRINT options appear in the menus of the ida-x305, but no sound can be heard. So the only thing left I can think of is how I have the speakers set up....

I have the front outs from the unit spliced directly to the front speakers though there is 2 different hookups described in the manual:

1.)Internal amp- hook rca's back into the x305. (not possible, there aren't any inputs there?)

2.) external amp- hook rca's to a 2ch amp, then route their output to speakers.

Something has got to be wrong here, are they telling me after the fact that I gotta buy an amp? on top of needing to buy the POS pxa-h100 just to unlock some frickin EQ on this deck?

Someone please help.

To my knowledge, on some alpne decks, the rca pre-outs become rcs pre-ins when you flip the switch ON THE HEAD UNIT to ext proc.

SO:

1. Flip Switch on HU to ext proc/eq (

2. Hook h100 to deck via AI-Net cable

3. Take front and rear RCA outputs FROM h100 and hook them TO front and rear RCA's on HU (They are now inputs)

Basicly the signal is diverted. Instead of CD/iPod -->HU DA--->AMP/RCA's. It now goes CD/iPod---->h100----EXT DA---->RCA's

To get sound into your HU amp again you have to feed it directly. Just like an external amp.

hate to tell you this but you will not be any happier with the pxa added. the entire ida line has terrible sq. i had 3 of them, 2 with the pxa, and returned them all.

Thanks, I was really surprised at how bad the deck sounded. I know knothing about stereos, but after a couple hours research, Alpine seemed highly regarded by a lot of people. The ipod connectivity on the x305 is just too good to pass up though. I'll prolly ride it out either way until I see a deck that can do what this can do control-wise.

check out the kenwood x993. it doesn't have the video display of the ida but the ipdo controls are just as good and the sq is so much better.
