HELP Poweracoustik ts1920 HELP

Hi guys, I'm new here and i'll warn ya i'm not sharp with electrical...soooo I have a Poweracoustik ts1920 running two 10" L7s. I just took a cross country trip and I'm pretty sure the amp worked the whole way out there but it wasn't on loud at all so I can't be sure. I do know it didn't work on the way back as the red protect light was on. The manual said the unit was either overheated or the speakerwires were crossed. I really dont think it could be either because I never had the sound up and I've ran it wired like this for over a year now with no troubles ever. I tried disconnecting the speakerwires all together and the light would still stay on. The light will only go off if the RCAs are unplugged. Fuses are good. I tried different RCAs too, no luck. If I do need a new amp what do you guys think would be best for under $500.

I'd give PA a call - see if they can help you figure out what the deal is.

Sounds like it might just be toast...it happens.

As for replacement amps.

If your subs are dual 4's you might look at the elemental designs nine.1

it's $350 from thier site edesignaudio.com 1200w at 1 ohm

if you have dual 2's check out the Alpine mrdm1005, $360 at millionbuy.com

They are dual 4s. Do you think I should go bigger than what I had (440W X 2 RMS)? I believe they were rated for 650 apiece. I got that PA for like $150 and if there is a difference in quality I'd much rather spend the extra $$ and not have to play these mickey mouse games with it ya know! What does the extra money usually do for you in a comparable power class??

for one thing, PA won't do what it's rated for. I bet your "440x2" amp is closer to 350x2. Not as if that will make a huge audible difference, but over-rated's over-rated, especially if it's 20%+.

I don't think you NEED to go bigger, but if you're comfortable spending ~$400 it makes sense to me to get as much power as you can in an amp that's known to be reliable.

If you were to get the nine.1, for example -- that's a 1200w amp, but it will safely produce 1300-1400 when/if you need it to. Plus, it's warranted for 3 years.

Generally - higher priced amps in the same power range get you --

more "actual" power

higher overall quality - better design, better parts, usually better/more precise controls

more durability

Hmmm so that nine.1 is a good rig huh? I really am not too picky. I ended up fixing the PA last night...lol I drank alot and beat it with a hammer then threw it in a huge bonfire...yep good to go. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

nine.1's definitely a solid amp.

3 yr warranties on amps are rare...they clearly believe in it.

The PA's not all THAT bad, and you got a pretty good deal on it IMO, but those L7's would do some pretty noticable damage with the nine.1. It's close to double the power.
