Help plz??

I am setting my gain with a 50hz tone , volume on HU at 53 and subwoofer preout on HU all the way up. When the gain is all the way down my dmm read about 10volts, the weird thing is when i turn it up the volts raise normally until about 36 volts then no matter how much more i turn it up it stays the same, the amp still works just fine?? please help
