Well I have a 97 Mercury Grand Marquis which I recently upgraded the HU to an Alpine CDA9856 and my Front and Rear Speakers to 6x8 Infinty References and 6x9s (respectivly) along with an Alping MRPF450 Amp. Now that I have quality sound Im looking for some bass

What do you know that tax refunds and my bday are coming soon so Im looking for an around $500 setup, if it costs more thats ok

Everyone seems to recomend FI Subs but which ones and each one has its own options so which options. Also what are other subs that fit in my budget.

I need to get a Amp also so whats a good mono amp? Has anyone ever made there own amp (I took alot of electricity classes and I have diagrams for decent Class D amps)

What kind of box Ported or Sealed? My friend said sealed is "cheating" what does he mean? (Something like sounded louder for cheaper)?

Sound I invest in 2 12" or just 1 or is 12" a good size. What are benifits of 10s 12s 15s? I understand that 10s can "move" in and out faster than 15s is that a benifit?

I listen to a variety of music from rap to techno to rock

Thanks

Well there are different possibilities here for you. I will give you one that will fit your budget. You could go with one Alpine 12' type R, amp it with the Alpine MVR-650, 600 rms at 2 ohms. Go with a ported box, or have one coustom made that is ported. This setup will pound loud and sound good doing it. Good luck!

i'd recommend Fi as well. i've tried 2 of their subs, and loved them both, they do exactly what they are designed to do.

but you generally need to get an idea of how much power you want to run first, then match up subs to amp.

and sealed blows, FYI. go ported, they are much louder if designed properly.

what do you want out of a system? SPL, SQ?

since you are on a pretty small budget, i'd recommend the hifonics BXi line....they are not the best and are overrated, but they put out good power for the price.

you need to match up subs to amp though...
