hello,
I recently had this amp as well as a 12" alpine type r single sub added onto my factory bmw thx certified 10 speaker sound system. The car is a 07 Z4 M Coupe. It was wired so that the sub works together with the factory system, so when the bass on the factory speakers goes up so does the sub. Long story short, I am not happy with the sound quality. I feel that the subwoofer bass is too messy and loud. The factory system sounds nice at about 50% bass on the factory eq. But at that level the bass from the sub is too much and rattles the enitre car and the sound quality is not too great. If I turn the bass down, the sub is quieter but the rest of the factory speakers' bass levels are too low. The gain on the amp is almost all the way down and the shop also lowered the levels at the rca converter. The installer told me he wouldn't lower it anymore if he were me. I used to be into very loud bass, but I now prefer something much less, just a nice small increase from the factory speakers is what I'm looking for. Now my admittingly uneducated guess would be that a big single 12" sub is too much for my tastes and a small hatchback sports car trunk. I was thinking that getting a smaller capacity sub might be the way to go since I can't control the sub volume independantly from the factory speakers. I feel like the single 12" isn't tight enough, just loud and messy, so would something like a single infinity ref860W 8" be tighter and less loud given the same settings as my 12"?" Second question would be if that sub would work well with my mrp500 mono amp. I would build a sealed enclosure myself. Looking at the enclosure stats for that sub I was thinking a 8x8x9.5 inside dimension translating to a 9.5x9.5x11 outside dimesion box might work well (I have limited trunk space). Basically looking for less bass and better, tighter sound quality. Any input would be appreciated. Sorry for the long post. Thanks for reading
