I just recently got a DEH-P4900IB Headunit and alpine sps-17cs rears along with infinity 4022i for my front speakers

two friends have told me i need to get an amp for these or my headunit will die and another friend said that the speakers would blow or short out if i dont get an amp.

Any truth to this? im really new to car audio and my headunit says 50x4 for wattage

and my rears pull 250w max and my front pull 105 max which if i turn my volume up loud is way more than my headunit can give.

Do i need an amp if so what should i get? i am also planning on adding a subwoofer in a month or two if that makes a difference im looking at 2 12"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also are these speakers any good? I also have to turn my headunit up to vol ~40 to get my music somewhat loud. is this normal?

My car is a 1993 toyota corolla

your speakers won't pull any more than the H/U can give so no it won't kill your H/U

but you should want to amp them cuz they will get a lot louder and be cleaner while doing it

no man you don't need crossovers for subs. I think your thinking of pass filters which should be built into any sub amp you get...are you going to power your speakers and subs off the same amp or get seperate ones?

oh i thougth i would need crossovers cuz some peopel were telling me i would need them for my speakers or something. i was thinking of powering them off of seperate ones but would one amp do the trick and save me money? its not really a "big" system by any means at all so maybe like a 4 channel 1000 watt amp would work? or is that not enough?

Also when would a capacitor be a necesity. A buddy of mine has one but im not really sure if my system would need it? Aren't they only if your getting skips or something because of low hits?

crossovers for speakers (if they are components) yes

crossovers for speakers (if they are coaxile (sp?)) no

crossovers for subs no

yeah you can amp them seperate or they make like 5 channel amps that can power a small sub seperately. But if your looking to give your sub(s) a large amount of power your going to want 2 seperate amps.

Alright two seperate amps is the way i will go.

I'm not sure if my speakers are components or coaxile. i will look at the box i guess.

Any recomendations on amp for my speakers?

I am very new to car audio and appreciate everyones help very much. This is a hobby i plan on getting into very much ive always been very indepth with pc hardware and looking to go into the audio field now.

Are there any links that could show me how to install/setup an amp myself i mean we all gota learn sometime or should i not take my chacnes yet and pay the labor fee of like 30-40 bucks and take it to an audio dealer to put in?

ty!

So all of my speakers are coaxial //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So, when looking for an amp i want to find something that has 200-300rms at the 4ohm or 2ohm range?
