Ok I am going to be honest I don't know crap about car audio I am 15 and Have a job putting on Vinal sidding and I have alot of extra money I just want to know some basic stuff about car audio like what is SQ, SQL, SPL or something like that I know I am going to get alot of jackasses making fun of me but hey man no one has ever told me anything before so if anyone has MSN,Yahoo or some crap like that I want to learn because I am really interested in car audio but I don't know if I am getting a good deal on stuff or not because well I just don't know HELP ME!

ok... i really dont know crap either but i can help u out with the basics.

sq= sound quality.

spl=sound pressure level...wich is what makes ur chest pound and things rattle

theres two kinds of spekers that come in dif sizes:

*component sets= made up of 3 dif "components" wich are... tweeter (small 1" speaker), midrange woofer (medium 6.5 or 5.5" speaker) and a crossover (wich separates dif audio frequencies for the tweet and the midrange)

*coaxials:= speakers with midrange and tweets mounted on top of each other

they come in dif sizes ex. 6.5", 6x9", 5.5" etc...

*subwoofers range in sizes from 8" 10" 12" and 15"...

*amps= basically what they do is feed power to ur speakers or subs.

all subs need an amp cuz a head unit (hu) cant give them enough power...

it is recomended to amp ur speakers to eliminate distortion and give ur speakrs "clean power"

also recomended u go with component speaker sets.

well thats about all i can think... again i know crap so feel free to ask someone who knows best

peace

SQL = Mix between SQ and SPL. this is what most people perfer.

examples of woofers:

SQ = Adire Audio Shive

SPL = Any Rockford fosgate

SQL = J Audio W3

you cant have all of both (sq + spl). If you get an SPL sub (also known as driver) then it will sound bad. by bad we mean it cant accurately recreate the music, but it can make you gasp for air. SQ drivers are just the opposite. they are accurate, but dont give as much of an impact as the other. SQL is a 50/50 mix.

Most people your age want to have the loudest car. dont be bothered if you do, we all did it too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif . but, if you decide to go SQ, it is usually cheaper (usually //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif , it can be waaaaaaayyyyyy more expensive because you need "clean power") and you will get a lot more comments out of your friends. they play their ear-deafening system, impress everybody, then you play your sq system, and it just shows them all you actually have taste //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif . i'm not bashing anyone, like i said we all did it AT LEAST once. i did it twice personally (2 systems).

browse this forum and just ask questions. no one will ever jump on your back for asking questions. in fact, they will be very friendly. the best part is that more than likely you will start many arguments between forum members ("this amp is better" , "no this one is" etc...) so you can learn a lot about brands and products like that. just ask and learn. everybody here can offer opinions on what YOUR best option would be and how to install it yourself.

hint: do not get it installed somewhere else. you will only end up redoing it yourself, if not to fix something they screwed up, then just because you are addicted to the hobby like we are //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

hell yah, this shit is addictive, and it can be an expensive hobby. but it's all for the music. a system needs a sub cuz it just makes the music just sound better overall. at least that's my opinion //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

just read teh threads n stuff n u ll learn a lot. n yeah, it's better to do the install urself, if u know someone that knows how to do this stuff, much better so he/she can guide you thru.

all you really need to know about audio is here on this website.....it's a virtual wealth of information. the main thing you need to learn (and it's something that took me a while) is that you'll never know everything and that every day is a chance to learn something new.

i've been learning for almost four years now, and i'm pretty handy with DIY installs, simple ported/sealed box design and am well versed in trouble shooting electrical systems. I'm still pretty fuzzy when it comes to acoustic signature and all that staging and imaging mumbo-jumbo.....but that 's the stuff i'm still trying to learn //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

if you need to know anything, i will either give you the best answer i'm capable of or ask one of my more knowledgable resources if i don't know....that goes for everyone who reads this.
