Hi I just recently upgraded my system to a louder sub. The problem I have is that the sub overpowers the rest of my system and rather than turn it down I wanted to keep my lows but make my highs/mids catch up.

The major weakness is probably my mids which have no chance of being loud enough to keep up with sub. The tweeters have a better chance but then the highs are just too sparkly if I put them much louder than the mids. What im thinking is to get a powerful enough tweeter that I can cross over low probably 1kz so I can get some of the mids and most of the highs? Any other suggestions?? If my idea can work what tweeters will be good for my goal????

My system

HU: Pioneer 880PRS

High: Rainbow Cal25

Mid : Rainbow Vanadium kick

Low : 05 RE XXX

High Amp: PPI Art A300.2

Mid Amp: Pg x200.2

Low Amp: US AMP MD2D

X-over points:

High: HPF 3.15Khz/12db

Mid: LPF 3.15Khz/18db

HPF 80Khz/12db

sub: LPF 80Khz/18db

Unless you're going with horns using a 36db/oct crossover, don't plan on crossing at 1kz. A good place to look at is between 2k-2.5k, which is doable with a 1"+ tweeter and a steep 24db/oct crossover.

Try fitting some 8's in the doors that you can cross a notch lower than 2khz on your 880prs (it's 1.6khz on my 8053), and cross your tweets at 2khz...steepest slopes possible. I'll go ahead and recommend this TangBand tweeter that I'm using: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=264-834

Crossing it at 2khz I can crank it as loud as I want without it being harsh. I can even cross lower so long as I don't turn it up beyond my normal listening levels. The key is just to use really steep crossovers, which has always enabled me to have the tweets play a lot of the music, keeping the stage higher. It will also make your midbass more pronounced since your mids won't be trying to play stuff

Im looking at the box for my tweeter at it says frequency response 2.8hz-25hz. Would a hpf of 2.5/24db be too dangerous if I crank up my music??

8's are out of the question when it comes to my car
