ok I read the gain setting tutorial.

How do you come up with 100x4=400 and then it magical turns into a volt reading? Where is the last step that turns it into a volt because (100*4)only =400 to me...

Also, when doing this conversion do I use my head unit which shows 50wX4? I see some people using the amp wattage and some using the woofer wattage. I understand I should take the lowest. But please elaborate...

thank you

Not to be a dick, but I still have no idea what the hell I'm doing...

Do I use the head unit watts?

so 50x4=200

Now what?

Or the amp watts 70x4???

And that link was to complicated for me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif It didnt really help explain.

In theory, can I test with volt meter the RCA cables in and match that on the speaker out???

I swear I'm graduating from a university this year! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

Not to be a dick, but you need to understand what that site is telling you to be able to work on this stuff.

Don't even bother with the ratings on the head unit for gain setting. All you're concerned about is the voltage coming out of the amplifier...

well I'm making this harder than it is...

I printed off a table someone made on this board.

I have kicker comps that are rated at 60 watts rms so I used the 55 watts on the table. That said to tune to 14.7 volts. I tuned the amp to 14.5.... with 1khz

However, the amp gets very hot and shuts off. (alpine f450)

How do I go about diagnosing it?

Do I have a faulty amp, and that is what is screwing my tuning up. Or am I jsut retared? Like I said before, the coaxles in the back over power the comps when the fader is equal //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

55 Watts -- 4 Ohms, V=14.83 -- 6 Ohms, V=18.16 -- 8 Ohms, V=20.97

60 Watts -- 4 Ohms, V=15.49 -- 6 Ohms, V=18.97 -- 8 Ohms, V=21.90

65 Watts -- 4 Ohms, V=16.12 -- 6 Ohms, V=19.74 -- 8 Ohms, V=22.80

70 Watts -- 4 Ohms, V=16.73 -- 6 Ohms, V=20.49 -- 8 Ohms, V=23.66

thanks again. I'm really not this stupid in person
