Help me tune my SSD10's

I have two SSD10's with flat coil option. I have them in a .66 ft^3 sealed box per sub as pictured below.

I get a creepy peak at 50hz and do not like it, I do not like it at all. I had hopes of building only one box and being done but I guess not. The box is in a 2000 VW Jetta and run off of an Alphasonic PMA800DA amp which says 1640W going to both subs. I do plan on getting the SA3000 when it comes out (late July //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif).

regardless, I am an SQ guy and would like some tips on what size/type of box to build to get the cleanest tightest bass with out that **** peak.

I am running an 800PRS but may put in my McIntosh MX406 when it comes back. I have the EQ set right now to get rid of the peak and it does sound pretty flat (although the 880PRS has harsh high's compared to the Mc HU).

Also, I put the lexan on the box to show the subs off a bit but I am starting to wonder if the lexan is causing some internal reflections. I know nothing of the SSD subs and would like input on also fiber fill(?) and/or porting.

Thanks

How long have you had them? Have they had a chance to break in yet? Once the suspension loosens up on them some, they tend to mellow out. But usually we dont have the flatwinds for sealed applications... they tend to work well ported.

Id run them with some low frequencies and get them softened up. As it sits, you should have a decent middle of the road QTC right now in that space... and Im wondering if the peak you have might simply be the natural frequency of your vehicle?

Thanks...

Scott

I purchased one from a member on here and one new this month. I do understand they need to break in and I did not know about the flat wind thing but no matter at this point.

They do sound excellent and it is only on a few cd's (mainly- Wide Spread Panic "Everyday") that I have to turn down 50hz by -6db.

I have my 880PRS set to 63hz 12db oct LPF (stereo). the fronts i have at 80hz 12db oct. If I change anything from that it throws off the nice flat response. and believe me I tried everything.

I also put some 1/2" closed cell foam beneath the rear deck and third brake light since the deck and such rattled like h#!!.

As I have it now I will live with and give it some time to break in. The 10's do move some air however //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif. they push my windows in and out as I roll them down and move hair and shirts of people within a foot of my car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I would have to say that my a/d/s/ S10's where tighter but they where not as much fun //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

and thank you so much for the quick response. BTW, forget the e-mail I sent when you guys had a delay in your responses at the begining of the month //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif. The subs showed up 3 days late //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Is that dimensional lumber that you made the box out of? If so i would highly doubt that its 100% air tight. Pretty sweet box though i'll give you that!
LoL, kinda looks like it is now don't it. It is MDF with Birch from Menards (like Home Depot but local for me). Originally I was going to stain the inside but I was too anxious to get it in the car and waiting for the silicone to dry was long enough for me

Besides, I have 10 pounds of screws man, it HAS to be air tight //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fro.gif.c695f1f814b01c4ad99fe7f8cccadd29.gif

I should take it to work and do a leak test on it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif
