Idont understand what people see in the Sony Xplods anyways.
He could prolly get a profile amp cheap sub (other than the P5 Xplod) And find someone on here to build him a box for cheap. Profile amps are cheap and good quality IMO. There are alot of better subs out there other than the P5.For the same price

Ascendant Audio Assassin 10", $70+shipping directly from the people that make 'em. I can't imagine that it would run more than $85 or $90 total including shipping.

Couple that with a factory refurbished Profile California-series CA600 2-channel amp direct from Profile's online store (on that link scroll down to the 1st amp on the page) $65+shipping where again I cannot see the total after shipping exceeding $80. I'm suggesting that amp as in bridged mode it would have plenty of Oomph for that Assassin 10".

So $80+$90=$170.

That leaves $30 of the assumed maximum budget of $200 to buy a sheet of MDF, some screws, and a tube of sealant to make a box.

Thats what i'd do. Or even replace the Assassin with a 12 or get an id12 from cardomain for 100 shipped. either way, if you on a budget, profile is a good amp to get.

My statements are based on that since he's probably young, and his parents are buying it, they want to get it from a store. If they would buy it from seperate websites, then sure, your's is a much better option. I'm assuming he has no clue how to install any of that, nor can he make a box. So unless his friend builds the box and installs it, you can tack on those costs as well.

Fair enough. THe opening post made no mention of the Xplod sub coming in an enclosure of any kind and for $150 getting it from a "big box" store I'll continue to assume that it doesn't and all he would be getting would be the single driver and that amp.
Either route is going to require an enclosure and the proper wiring to make either combination work so dollars vs. performance we all know they are much better off buying online. I like the california profile amps. I have a blown one sitting here at the house torn apart. It put out 400 rms. I should look into getting it fixed lol

also assuming his parents let him buy from online dealers.

but if he was stuck at cc, id say listen to both setups
