So, my friend got talked into buying a 10" Sony xplod, with a powerbank. (He says the powerbank is running 3-400 watts RMS with a 1000w peak lol).

So how much is he paying for all this? $150

I keep telling him that sony xplods are crap but he counters it saying that there aren't any bad reviews on the xplods.

can anyone suggest him something else besides these. His budget is probably $200 tops (pushing it).

If 200 dollars max is what his budget is, then that xplod is probably right up his alley. He obviously doesn't know a whole lot about audio but just wants a sub. If it comes with a box, then it's a box/amp/sub all for pretty cheap. You can check like crutchfield for deals they have on kits like that.

seems like he's going this route. He told me his parents are paying for it, and they refuse to go higher.

so it looks like hes going to get this. i'm gonna go accompany him to hear it after they finish installing it =[

I don't know what you expect to sound better for $150. Sure there is tons of better equipment out there, but not for that little money.

after hearing the infinity basslink I would go with that..my brother is selling his....im serious about this too...it has some serious kick for what it is. It has an internal amp as well and is also enclosed..

Except the 10" basslink is $300 from crutchfield. I'm sure his parents aren't going to buy him used equipment from a forum either. So he's probably stuck with mainstream stores which means, this is way out of his budget.

doesnt have to buy from me. And I like crutchfield but here are some different prices...may not be authorized but seeing how this thing is all inclusive it would take alot of user error to screw this up.

yea he could get a better deal on classifieds or fleabay.

too bad he can only buy fron cc or best buy, with a very limited budget.

bazooka's are cheap and sound decent. sub, tube and amp one pkg..
I would call that half-right. They're cheap...as to sounding decent? That's a very subjective thing.

BimmerSupreme?

You've stated the friend's parents, who are funding this little venture apparently, would likely not be willing to buy something used off of the (a) forum but would they consider buying from online if it's factory-direct?

While working with the friend's stated budget does present a bit of a problem but I found a different route that still fits the budget that I think would be much more satisfying than that Xplod 10" and that PowerBank...

Ascendant Audio Assassin 10", $70+shipping directly from the people that make 'em. I can't imagine that it would run more than $85 or $90 total including shipping.

Couple that with a factory refurbished Profile California-series CA600 2-channel amp direct from Profile's online store (on that link scroll down to the 1st amp on the page) $65+shipping where again I cannot see the total after shipping exceeding $80. I'm suggesting that amp as in bridged mode it would have plenty of Oomph for that Assassin 10".

So $80+$90=$170.

That leaves $30 of the assumed maximum budget of $200 to buy a sheet of MDF, some screws, and a tube of sealant to make a box.

This combo, imho, would be much more satisfactory than the gear your friend is looking at. Both items being manufacturer-direct should eliminate any fears the parentals might have about buying from somewhere other than Best Buy or the like.

Just my $0.02.

Idont understand what people see in the Sony Xplods anyways.

He could prolly get a profile amp cheap sub (other than the P5 Xplod) And find someone on here to build him a box for cheap. Profile amps are cheap and good quality IMO. There are alot of better subs out there other than the P5.For the same price
