I have a 2005 chrysler 300. In the trunk I have a snailshell ported box, w/ the port and the sub both facing the front of the car. I have an '05 xxx 15" in it, and it sounds the loudest/best facing forward.

Now, my question. I want to seal the open area/space that joins the trunk from the cabin of the car. There's about 3" on each side, and about 2" on top of the box, and it makes it sound like *** outside. I feel if I seal that opening, it'll get louder and sound better inside/out.

I want some ideas on how poeple have done this, or how I should do so. I'm not sure if I wanna cut wood pieces for the top and sides openings, and seal it like that, or what.

Opinions, PLZ!!!!!

Yea, and I do have that whole area deadened, but I want to actually seal the trunk off from the sub/port back.

Thanks!!!!!

i assume the seats fold down then? if they do, then just 'wall' behind the seats
The seats fold down, yes. I think you misunderstood, though. The sub and port is facing front, so I cant wall it. I just wanna know what people do when they wanna seal the small space thats around the sides and top of the box......you know, that space between the box, and the rear deck area?

thanks

I'm having the same problem. I dont even listen to my music that loud, but if I turn it up just a little bit, from the outside it sounds like my car is falling apart(and its a new car). I was gonna try dynamat but i've been talked out of it. It's really pissing me off i'm thinking of just getiing rid of all it. And if you wondering I have a 12" l7 powered by a zx750.

you should definately to deadener.....it can only help out your problem. I have 3 layers all over the rear area of the car, and I'm still having problems....its beyond deadener.

I'm also just interested in getting it to go louder and sound better. I know how I can seal it, but I wanna get some ideas.....something I havent though of myself.

I was thinking of cutting wood for the openings, screw them into the box, and then seal the other end(deck) w/ that spray foam stuff.

you can make some panels that screw to the front of your box when said box is in place and carpet them to look nice. just get them close to the edges and it will help lots. the biggest problem you will run into is the stock carpet in the trunk area. you do not want to foam seal the box to the carpet. if anything maybe take a plastic bag, position it into the gap, fill said bag with expandable foam and let it expand to fill the 1" gap around the boards you made.cut the excess foam off, and glue it to your boards on the side.

or something like that.

just dont do anything permanent.

and by the way, the car will always rattle from the outside. its virtually impossible to stop ALL OF THE RATTLES unless you spend tons of hours, and tons of money on sound deadening.
