Help me pick a sub

I am fairly new at the amplified sub scene so i was hoping a few of you could help me figure out what would be my best choice.

Right now i have an Alpine CDM-9801 hu, kinda low end, but it works. I have a couple sets of Polk Audio speakers installed in the doors and mids. I need a little bass to help things out. I pick up a Dual 10" SBP10 sub powered by a Dual 300w 2 channel (bridged) amp. This too is very low end but it was cheap, so i snagged it. It has a bandpass style box which i have read is for maximum boom. I listen to rock not rap so i thought about building my own sealed enclosure for the Dual woofer to make the bass a little tighter.

Somewhere i read where 1 to 1.25 cubic feet of volume is need for a sealed box enclosure. Is this all dependent on the speaker too?

This is going into a 96 Bronco, full size. What would be a good woofer choice, running about 200 to 300w, to go into a homemade sealed box for $100 or less? and how much box volume is needed with it?

Thanks, Jerry.

UMWDog - I took you up on that Cadence amp. Looks brand new and is workin good. The Dual brand 10" bandpass box doesn't sound too bad but i think it is a little muffled. Kinda hard for me to tell as this is my first sub. Not much to compare it with. I'm going to build the 1 cu ft sealed box, swap the driver and compare the sound. I'm already thinking of buying a better driver.

I'm hoping to keep the sealed box and just find a better driver that works well in that 1 cu ft box. Not going to spend a ton of money on one but maybe up to $100.

What in particular should i be looking for spec wise to know if a driver would work in a certain size box and enclosure type?

Looks good, and right in my price range. All the searching i have done on it syas it's more of an SQL sub. I'm looking for SQ. Also heard it likes more than a 1 cu ft sealed box. Would it still sound good in a 1 cu ft box?

I think it will be fine, if you don't like the way it sounds in that box you can always build a bigger one... most sql type subs will still have very good SQ but have the added ability to play loud if you want them to so they're kinda of the best of both worlds in a way but not to one extreme or another... and remember alot of how a sub sounds is in a properly built enclosure
