Help me decide on a subwoofer within buget

I have about 200-250 dollars to spend on a subwoofer and box. I prefer a sealed enclosure and I only have enough room for one 10'' or 12'' sub. I bought an alpine type r 10'' sub and put it in a .65 cubic foot sealed enclosure. I wasn't happy with the sound I was getting. So I then traded that box for a ported enclosure with 1 cubic foot of space. Still not happy. So I'm going to sell it and get something else. My question is what shall I go with? I don't want the enclosure to be any bigger than 1.25 cubic feet because I drive a ford ranger and space is an issue. Right now I'm leaning towards getting a 1.25 cubic foot enclosure with a alpine type r 12'' but now I'm not to sure. I'm just looking for some clean accurate bass that will hit when I want it to. By the way I have a JL Audio 500/1 amp. Any suggestions.

no fuckin way is 1.0 cube gonna be big enough for a type argh 10 or 1.25 is gonna be big enough for a 12

According to the Alpine Site that's what I should use but after looking on here no wonder it sounded so bad. What would sound good with that box size?

that 10 would be perfect in 1.5 ported...not to mention if your box was a prefabricated box it was tuned super high and probably sounded like *** and boomy...tune lower or go sealed

For starters Type R's are SPL Oriented.. so if you want SQ get what Twisted said..you'll find some good deals in the classifieds on here and build your own box if its only 1.25 Cubes and sealed.. shits easy.and cheap

Type-R is a capable sub for its price range.

The box is most important.

Build/Tune to your preferences, sub's needs.

i would go sealed just because i know how much of a pain in the *** it is to port a box in a truck

i just have a thing for re since i run them and they are capable in smaller than normal enclosures...

Pretty similar subs imho when it comes to use/basic specs. Motor force is pretty different however.

JL W3v3 12's can be used in 1.25 sealed...

probably 1 cube or so sealed
