Help me decide between these

Looking for a new set of components. Currently running Diamond Audio S600S. First of all, would it be worth the swith to any of the following? and if so, I'm trying to decide between the following:

Morel Dotech Ovation Comp 6

CDT HD-642(haven't run a 3-way setup before so I'm still undecided on this)

CDT ES620Z

Focal 165VR UV

Rainbow CMX-265

SPX-17PRO (should I even consider these?)

All attainable right under $400 it looks like. I listen to most types of music.

The rest of the system I have is:

Pioneer DEH-P880PRS

Pioneer PRS-D4200F

Diamon Audio D3 1000.1

JL Audio 12W7

Thinking about adding in a few 8's for a little more midrange(i've got 4 RE8's sitting around collecting dust)

Why do you want to switch them. That's probably a good place to strart. What is missing from the Diamonds?

i feel like they put out a ton of highs through the tweets, but not much through the midbass.

you shouldnt get highs on midbasses like a tweeter...midbasses should be for MID bass(more like low bass or high bass)

no i mean im getting a ton of highs with these speakers, but not much for midrange. Its there, just doesnt match how much high is coming from them.

perhaps a phasing issue. Before you drop some coin on a terminal problem, switch the phase of ONE of your midbasses. Are you biamped?

this is the amp i'm pushing them with:

Could it be that I'm not getting enough power out of it? I checked the phase and that didnt fix anything. I tried tuning a bit w/ the deck and achieved a bit more, but i dont want loudness on. What should my high pass be set at and low pass be set at?

you want to set the LP as low as you can without distortion to the midbass. George Lucas says keep them at 80...WTF does he know? I don't see why you can't get your to at least that and the highpass should be the same. Have you considered an active set-up?

What deck?

Is that amp just for the highs and mids or are you running a sub off of it as well? Seems like enough power if they're bridged at 150-ish...75 watts is fairly light in the ***, though.

I have had the LP and HP set at 80 for a while. They seem to be making a popping sound(distortion or too low of a tone I'm guessing) when i turn the deck up to 1/2-3/4 volume though. so i immediately turn it down and try messing w/ the eq settings but can't seem to dial in on the problem.

I tried bridging the amp this morning and they do perform much better, and pick up those midrange tones a bit better, but like i said, they keep making the popping/smacking sound and i'm forced to turn it right down.

Sorry for being a noob, but i've heard about active/passive setups, but dont know jack about either way. I'm more than happy to read a post about it, but when i search i dont find the right info about it. Do you have a good link for it or could you provide me with the +'s and -'s of doing either way.

DIYMA has a lot of good reading on active set ups and drivers. Since your HU is capable I'd suggest that route...

Infatic agreement. DIYMA is a bit more technical and will assist in this type of thing. Deciding on crossover points is an indiviudual thing and can't be done without lots of research OR trying the different settings.

The 880 is active ready, meaning you are wasting power by sending it into the crossover's capacitors as well as losing your tuning abilities.

I wouldn't buy anything, yet, because if you do it right you may have everything you need already. then you can pick and choose tweeters for a mellower flavor than what diamond audio has.

how are your doors? I mean, are they insulated at all? I used to have Diamonds and they put out great midbass...but then again, any speaker probably would have done that with the amount of deadener my doors had.
