Help me choose subwoofers/amplifier for my boat...

I've got an '07 Super Air Nautique 220. I'm taking the factory tower speakers, replacing them. Keeping the interior boat speakers and powering them all with my two factory Clarion Amps.

I've got all that covered, but I need some help deciding on a subwoofer and amplifier. I've come to a caraudio forum because thats exactly where I'll get better answers than to go to my local audio store and say whats best, and they reply, "JL Audio!" Hey, they have great stuff, no doubt, but I am on a budget. I'm sure I could pick up both a JLW7 and a 1000 watt amp for $1,000 or less, but I would like to remain under that and get something louder with better sound quality.

That is key to me. This is a boat, so obviously we need to go with at least a 12 or bigger. I'm still deciding on whether I'm going to go with 1 or 2 12's. I've looked at several different companies, RE, JL, ED, Arc Audio, etc. Give me your opinions, I'm all ears.

Subwoofer/Amplifier and don't forget to include why. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thanks!

SQ in mind?

Lets get you in that budget, shall we?

2x Fi Q's, 15's :)

2x Si Mags when they come out

2x IDMAXxes

Coupla options. Q's are readily available and great subs.

RE SE's are also another favorite of mine personally

SQ is extremely important to me, but just as important at SPL since it is a boat, and the subwoofer must compete with other noise. I want a sub that isn't JUST sloppy and loud, but something that can hit tight notes when listening to rock and jazz -- something that can emulate the double bass just as hard as some low tones from Bone Thugz and Ludacris, but do it with clarity, and loud sound.

Ahh...the perfect sub.

I see you are in Orlando. Ever though about doing multiple smaller subs. I have a few Fi X10"s. Maybe 4 10's? With 1K watts this will work very well and run at 2ohm, just incase you haven't bought the amp yet.

just because its a boat doesnt mean you need a lot more woofage....I've had two polk 12s in a bandpass enclosure in on of my yachts and a friend of mine has a 22-23ft ski boat(cant remember the brand) and he has two fosgate 10s...older style fosgates and they keep up extremely well with his focals. He has them sealed and I think you would be happy with two 10s

Still would be a very cool multiple sub setup and keep the cost down a whole lot. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

a lot of things are going to play a role in which type of subs you get too....like how much space you have to work with...where will the subs be: in the open where they can get wet or under a console or something where they wont.

I know a guy who is a eletrical eng. for harris corp. He has about 40 mil in the bank. He is a huge electronics freak so he goes and buys all the top audio plays it and keeps the best. He has Cambridge soundworks on his 1,000,000 dollar boat. Believe me he does his research.

One thing with the wakeboard boats is the space. I had lil over a cube under the dash to make a box, thus keeping all the storage space i could. 1 12 sounds pretty **** good, its loud enough to hear it but yet not loud that its drowning out the speakers. 1 good 12 with 700-1000 watts should wang
