well i'm a newb to this whole HT crap, but i'm looking for an HDTV. i wanna keep costs as little as possible. i plan to use this for my xbox 360, dvd player, and general tv watching. (no HD service yet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif )

here are some of my choice and price:

http://sanyo.com/entertainment/televisions/digital/index.cfm?productID=905 $575

http://sanyo.com/entertainment/televisions/digital/index.cfm?productID=1116 $460

saw both of those tv's with an HD signal and looked nice

the sony is a little out of my budget, but if it blows away the rest i can make a reach for it.

also this tv i believe i can get for about $375 but not sure yet http://www.consumer.philips.com/consumer/catalog/catalog.jsp?fhquery=fh_secondid%3D32pt9100d_37_us_consumer%26fh_location%3D%2F%2Fconsumer%2Fen_US%2Fcategories%3Ccatalog_us_consumer%2Fcategories%3Ctv_gr_us_consumer%2Fcategories%3Ctv_4_3_ca_us_consumer%26&productId=32PT9100D_37_US_CONSUMER&activeCategory=TV_GR_US_CONSUMER&fredhopperpage=detail.jsp&language=en&country=US&catalogType=CONSUMER&proxybuster=43VJ2Z4TNI0UPJ0RMRESHQVHKFSEKI5P

I wouldn't even look at the Sanyos ... Philips's build quality tends to be mediocre, although they tend to offer a lot of features for the price ... I've yet to have a bad experience with a Sony TV and their image quality is great.

would you recommend that sony vs. the one i posted? is the widescreen better vs. the regular 4:3? i would think with regular tv watching the picture would seemed stretched. i can probably get that one cheaper then $799 at the store i have been dealing with

Go to the store(s) and evalute each model and you will have a better grasp.

i'm not picky, i'm more worried about quality actually. of the ones listed the only one i didn't see was the sony. my current tv is about 10 years old and the picture tube is going out. i just got an xbox 360 and probably in the future would like to have hd in my house. when running a video game through the component inputs, would it have the black bars on the side?
