Help me calculate port length

Hello all

I realize I haven't done my homework yet, I don't know the exact internal volume of my box, this one:



By my guestimations its around .75 cubic feet. I'm running a Kicker L7 8", and while its good I think it can do better.

If i were to port this baby (assuming .75 is correct) then how long would a 3" port need to be to tune to around 35 hz?

You need to build you a box a NEW box

Unless you plan to mount the port externally - it ain't gonna happen.

Your 3" port would need to be around 23" long to tune to ~35hz (with internal port, and assuming your enclosure is actually .75 cubes).

Build a bigger enclosure...

Yes, port will be external. I'm willing to mod the box to get the optimal volume. No, I don't want some bare mdf cube slathered in liquid nails. 23" gives me an idea of what kind of space I will need, thanks.
