Help me amp gods!

Hi all, new to the forum. Looking at getting a relatively cheap but clear sounding setup going. Diamonds in the rough so to speak (nothing comp worthy, just something clear hitting that can be cranked when needed). I'm new to setting up car audio, but I've been reading up on it for the last week or so. It's helped a great deal finding these forums (searches and stickies).

Car: 2004 Dodge SRT-4 with stock Livin' Loud Kicker System (sounds pretty good minus the crappy woofer)

Here's what I've got so far:

Head: JVC KD-HDR1

Sirius Tuner: JVC SIR1

Subwoofer: One Boss Blade BL220 DVC 12" Sub (600W RMS) - jumped the gun and got this because of a really good deal. Since reading in here that Boss maybe a name to avoid, I hope I didn't make a mistake, but the specs seem ok.

At this point I need help on a Sub amp. Like I said I want to go cheap, but not at the cost of quality. I've been looking at either the MA Audio HK1000D($186) or the Hifonics Brutus BXi1606D ($250). In comparison both seem good.

MA Audio HK1000D:

1000 watt RMS Digital Class-X Mobo-Block Amplifier

Temperature, Voltage & Output Level LCD Display

RCA Outputs: 1 Pair

Thermal, Short & Overload Protection Circuitry

Platinum Plated Screw Type RCA Jacks

Double Sided Black Epoxy PCB Board

Strappable with another HK-1000D

Platinum Plated Block Terminals

Fully Unregulated Power Supply

Stainless Steel Finish Heat sink

Quiet Fan Cooling System

Remote Gain Control

Full Mosfet Circuitry

Frequency Response: 10Hz - 350Hz

24dB Low Pass Filter: 50Hz - 350Hz

24dB Subsonic Filter: 15Hz - 50Hz

Variable 0 - 18dB Bass Boost Control at 45Hz

RCA Input Sensitivity: 0.2 - 8V

Low level Input Impedance: 22K Ohms

Damping Factor: 200 @ 4 Ohm

1 Ohm Mono Stable

Hifonics Brutus BXi1606D:

1600W x 1 RMS @ 1 ohm

Illuminated Heat-Sink Design w/Blue LED Light Pumps

Ultra-Fi MOSFETS

Fully Adjustable Accu-Cross Crossovers

180 degree Variable Phase Control (15-35Hz)

Variable 24dB Subsonic Filter

18dB Variable Bass EQ @ 45HZ

Pulse Wave Modulated MOSFET EXVP

Twin-Turbo Torroid Coil Design

Surface Mount Design

Balance Line Inputs

RCA Line Output for Amplifier Daisy Chaining

2 Ga. Oversized Gold Power Connectors

Dash-mountable bass remote included

From just a pen and paper aspect from what little I know so far, these seem fine minus the fact that the MA Audio shows Class X. I've never heard of a Class X amp, is that just a buzz word? I've also seen it referenced as Class T, and once site even claimed it was Class D, so I'm clueless as to what it actually is. Plus I read on here that the MA Amps were excessively power hungry.

The Brutus looks to be a solid class D, and while it doesn't have a fan, my guess is that it doesn't need it. Are these pretty power hungry as well?

Any other recommendation on amps between $150-250 (brand new preferred)? Essentially, I'm wanting to run my sub at 600W RMS, maybe 800W at the most.

Thanks in advance!

you can search ebay, there are some kicker kx600 amps there for arround 150 shipped. http://cgi.ebay.com/KICKER-KX600-1-MONO-AMPLIFIER-600-W-SIM-ZX750-1-DEAL_W0QQitemZ180078864926QQihZ008QQcategoryZ79829QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem This one has ended, but its a good example. Birth sheet shows 704 watts, at 2 ohm.

good luck
x2. why would you get a 1400 watt amp for a 600w sub???//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

Awesome, thanks!

I'll keep an eye out for the old model Kicker's. Would you say that the previous one's I listed are probably not that good then?

Gotcha, so pushing past RMS spec on that sub is not something to fool with on it. What amp would do you think would be best for pairing?

pairing what two of those subs? and orion 1200d prob or sometin like that

boss subs ****..since ur already @ half way of *******...go for the full ******* and get a boss amp to...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I would steer clear of the MA audio, the Hifonics you can use just make sure the gains are trimmed down properly and the sub will be fine, however since you are on a budget you can spend less and still be fine. That kicker amp is a great amp and meets your requirements. I would check flee bay a little bit more for one of those or comparable. Also anything alpine, MTX, most phoenix Gold, rockford or orion are all good choices as well.

link to the boss sub? that 600w rating might be max power, which RMS might only be 150-200, so finding an amp to power it will be that much easier/cheaper. like stated above, dont over power it, and you'll be fine
