Help!! Mazda 6 without bose - speaker upgrade questions

I'm hoping somebody can help me with my dilemma.

I have a 2003 mazda 6i without the bose system. I have a completely stock system as of now. I am a poor college student and I am looking to do the most cost effective upgrade to my audio setup by upgrading the speakers. I have chosen and purchased infinity reference 6x8 speakers.

Here's the problem. I forgot about the stock tweeters that are up front. I definitely don't want to keep that the way it is because the timbre matching would be terrible with the infinity reference speakers. So I thought that maybe I'd get a pair of $50 infinity reference tweeters and install those.

Will this work? Or should I just unplug the stock tweeters? I really don't wanna lose that extra imaging.

The other problem I came across when I was doing research is that apparently the stock speaker and tweeter are ran in parallel, which decreases the resistance, and so if I did just unplug the tweeter the max output would be lowered. This would be bad considering I'm working with a stock HU anyway.

Does anyone have any information or thoughts on if my idea will work?

Anything would be appreciated!! Thanks guys.

i had a similar issue. My stock speakers had a woofer and separate tweeter connected to each other. What i mean is that i replaced the woofer, and the stock tweeter was still playing. but. if you disconnected the tweeter, the woofer wouldn't work. And, I couldn't run a new woofer with its tweeter, as well as the stock tweeter. So i ended up just taking the stock ones out.

I'm pretty sure the stock setup is not only a woofer but has a tweeter on it in addition to the other tweeters.
Coaxial is what you just bought. Theres a tweeter on that 6x8 and its in your door. Now if you add another tweeter to the stock location, you will have two tweeters playing at different locations without any proper control. This causes harmonic distortions which lead to very nasty sounding treble. The more tweeters you add, the more sound quality you destroy unless you completely know what you are doing and have expensive sound processing and extensive SQ knowledge to actually tune it right.

The proper way would have been buying a pure woofer without any tweeter on it, then getting a seperate tweeter to the factory location.

You could have bought components or you could have ran two way active if you have an active capable head unit or amp.

You want the tweeters up top to blend perfect with the midrange in the door. Not have a nasty mess of sound everywhere.

Thank you i appreciate your help. Currently with the stock setup the sound is very evenly blended.

One thing I don't understand though. Why would it not be evenly blended if I replace the speaker and tweeter with two infinity products with the exact same resistance and sensitivity?

If the stock speakers can pull it off, why can't the infinitys?
