help identifying speaker problems

Hi,

Great forum, really love it. Bit new to the game, just wondering if anyone can help me identify what the problem is. The two front speakers in my civic have stopped working. At separate times, one has been cutting in and out for a while, then stopped, then the other one just completely stopped today. I took the door panel off and fiddled with the speaker, when I pushed on it, it would work intermittently. It didn't sound blown or distorted either.

Does this sound more like a wiring issue, or an actual speaker issue? I'm assuming that I haven't blown them, as they go from working to dead silent.. and I don't really pump them too hard anyway..

Are the speakers powered by the amp? Do you have rear speakers?

yeah, there are rear speakers. I'm assuming that it's all powered by an amp. Just a standard stereo in a 2006 Honda Civic.. rear speakers work fine, front tweeters are fine.. just the two front speakers in the door panels are gone.. but yeah like I said, when I push the cone slightly, signal comes back through..

assuming it isn't blown, it sounds like a lead on the back came loose, have you taken it off the door yet? otherwise to make sure the speaker isn't blown, take a multimeter and test the resistance(Ohm) across the speaker, should be around 4. If no luck there, try taking the stereo out of the dash and check connectors and wires, something could have gotten knocked around but its unlikely. If all that doesn't work, I would try hooking them up to another amp and see how they play. Just make sure to verify every connection is good between your stereo and your speaker, should be a direct line.
