So i had my radio hooked up wrongly once, and it messed it up.

It was getting really hot on the back.

But i bought a new one and it doesn't get hot as fast but i played it for about 45 mins and it got uncomfortably warm, i unplugged it tho so it doesnt mess up. wondering what could cause that?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

not really extra loud or anything

i have it grounded and everything.

My brother wired it for me..

& he put the yellow & red wire from the radio to just the red wire from the car..

i tried hooking yellow to yellow & red to red but it wont come on

Maybe this is the problem?

omg...

lol

first, did you install an aftermarket harness into your factory radio harness?

second did you wire your head unit to your aftermarket wire harness that plugs directly onto your factory harness.

third, if you do have an aftermarket harness just color match all the wires.

fourth, head units get hot. sometimes too hot for comfort. it's a sign that you should turn it down.

yes we got the harness but like i said when we hook yellow to yellow & red to red it doesnt work =[ so he just hooked up yel/red from radio to red from radio

is that ok? lol i know nothing and cant find anything on the internet.

Yes that is fine to do, I've had to hook pioneers up like that before. You just have to remember to turn the hu off when you get out of the car.

ok thanks. so it shouldnt burn up like that... as long as i have all the speakers wired right? & the only wires not hooked ujp are orange, blue green & neg purple pos purple

just hook up each corresponding wire to where it's supposed to go.

the yellow is your Power wire. it is a constant 12v souce to keep the head unit powered to store it's memory,

the red wire is hooked up to your ACC/Ignition. that means when you turn your key in the ignition the head unit receives a signal from the ignition and basically tells the head unit to turn on. in which it uses the yellow to feed it's needed voltage.

if you hook both yellow and red from the head unit to the red wire on the aftermarket harness your trying to run the head unit in general from the Ignition power source. which may not be suffecient power to handle the current draw of a head unit which may be causing it to heat up due to lack of current.

Pretty sure you got that backwards. Red is usually the constant source, and yellow is the turn on. Not all harnessess are the same though.

all harnesses i've dealt with have the Yellow as the 12v source, and the Red is the ignition.

though as you say they may not all be the same or running off the same color schemes.
