Need a little help guys…

As a self confessed “car guy”, I am sorry to say that I am a total n00b when it comes to car audio. I have searched this forum and many others just reading and looking at installs trying to get some ideas, however my wants/needs are simple compared to some of what I have seen.

I recently acquired a 2004 Subaru WRX STi that had an Alpine 9815 head unit running some cheap door speakers and a Rockford Fosgate amp running a giant sub box with 2 subs in it (Rockford) that sounded just awful no matter what I tried, so after talking with a friend of mine who used to be very much into car audio, I sold everything but the head unit and started from scratch.

Now this car is my daily driver and I have plenty of “car projects” going on that **** up most of my cash, so with a limited budget and a few “connections” I have set out to get a decent sound system in my car. I purchased a couple of things and some I got as freebies, but this is what I have thus far.

Alpine 9815 (came with car)

Alpine 9855 (NIB)

Alpine SBS-05DC Center channel (NIB)

Alpine SRP-17LP “Type R” Coaxial (NIB)

Alpine SPR-17LS “Type R” Components (NIB)

Alpine MRD-M300 (Barely used freebie)

JL Audio “10W0-4” in a small sealed JL box (another freebie)

I still want/need an Alpine MRA-D550 amp, and I understand that some of you audiophiles may be thinking “why on earth did he get those…”but I got some items free and the rest for a small price, so that is what we have to work with.

I am someone who absolutely prefers SQ to “thump”, and I know I will have to do some serious sound deadening in this car to quiet it down some. I also actually use my trunk, so if the small JL box will not work out, I will have to mount the sub in the spare tire well. This seems to be a popular option for the Subaru guys.

I am basically looking for mounting ideas, things I may have missed or will need, items to watch out for, blah blah blah…

Thanks

better off to post this in the box construction area of have a mod bump this over for you. You should get some better advice there. I have not seen the rear of one of those cars to even give a slight idea to it.

have fun slowing your EJ powered sedan down now...no more 13 flat...
lol...yes I know...believe it or not, the thing is still bone stock. I have to many other car projects going on that take up my time and money. This thing is plenty fast, but just needs a stereo.
