oh, and heres a pic of it in the truck for reference (i just cut the front corner off and angled it because it was digging a hole in the back of my seat):

I'd suggest a tan colored fleckstone paint to match the interior and get around the nightmare of doing vinyl on that thing. Fill in all the screw holes with Bondo, sand it smooth, slap on some primer, then a few coats of fleckstone and you're set.

Nice design/fit btw...

Is that, that wood Melamine or something? I've always wanted to try it.. but never have.. hows it work? Looks nice BTW.. I would try the fleckstone as Mlstrass suggested.. good luck!

i dont know what melamine is, but that stuff is just vynal coated 3/4 MDF. it was the only stuff lowes had at the time. like i said, its been workin and soundin great for almost 2 years.

i hadnt thought about fleckstone paint. i thought maybe to fiberglass and paint it, but i would have rather vynal covered it because im also recovering my seats in the same vynal with red suede inserts to match the outside color of the truck. so how well will that fleckstone paint paint stick to the box? ive seen that stuff flake off other surfaces before, like formica. the outside of the box isnt porous because of the vynal coating, and its a major PITA to scrape that stuff off.

also, thanks for the props on the design. lotta measuring, but it fit on the first try //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

that would be pretty easy to cover in non backed carpet.

and not to bad to stretch some vinyl over..

but you need a lotta work to completely smooth that box out if you wana cover it in vinyl.

If you scuff it with some 80 grit, lay on a few coats of primer, then fleckstone, and a couple of clear coats you'll be fine.

I did a HT sub a few years back with fleckstone/clear coat and it held up very well, even with things be set on it, bumped, etc...

yea i know it wouldnt be too hard to carpet it, but i dont want the vynal seams to show, so i think thats not gonna be doable. im gonna get some bondo and fleckstone paint and try that out.

the more i think about it and visualize it, the more the fleckstone is growing on me. ill give that a go and post up pics once im done so you guys can see how it turns out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hey n00b!!!

Melamine is coated particle board. The white coating will need to be sanded down for the primer to adhere better. On the other hand if it is indeed particle board core you will want to seal the hell out of it. Hell maybe coating the entire enclosure with resin would help to get a uniform substrate.
