Help, connecting network....

I just got another computer, and want to use a direct connect with my desktop. The desktop has a wireless connection to my home's router, and the new computer is connected to my desktops NIC via ethernet crossover cable. No matter what I try, I can not get them to share an internet connection, but I can ping both IPs from each computer, so I know they are connected. Any ideas on what to do, other than connecting to my router?

Ok, I was able to transfer a few files. I was in the middle of transfer an Xbox game, and tried loading a webpage. It didn't load, and as soon as it said can't load the page, the connection was dropped. I tried going to my network places, and loading My Documents from the old computer, it said it wasn't accessible?

good cable connection? good signal strength? plenty of bandwidth(keep in mine 2 computers are sharing one connection to the network now) might be easier to connect wireless if you had an adapter.

the internet shouldnt matter, your using a crossover cable so anything external shouldnt matter

It's not the internet that I am having a problem with. I can connect my old desktop wirelessly, and surf the net. It's sharing the connection that I am having a problem with. I had my Xbox that I use as a media center connected the exact same way, and could surf the net. If I enable 'share internet connection with other computers' (just the way the Xbox was setup) through my ethernet adapter, I can't surf the web, or anything on both computers.

Exactly, I can get connected with both computers, and share files, and all, but no internet with the secondary desktop.

Got it working. Don't know exactly what I did, but it works completely. Wooo!
