My dad was on his computer when all of a sudden it shut off. He then pressed the power button attempting to turn it on again. It wont come back on.

We let it sit for maybe 8 hours and tried to start it again. Nothing happened.

I'm thinking the power supply gave out? Any thoughts?

Power Supply, if it was moved, check the power wire that connects into the motherboard to ensure it didnt come lose.

Are there any lights on in the PC?

Any noises from Power supply when you plug it in?

Is the power supply turned on?

Let me know!

Sounds like your computer caught the HIV, was your dad visiting some naughty sites that mom probably would not approve of again? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Probably PSU ... Get a gooder to replace it ...

If you just need a low power unit, Seasonic and FSP make some nice ones.

If you need more power, Corsair or Silverstone are the way to go.

Worst case scenarios:

Motherboard magically took a shiat.

Power supply crapped out.

Your fan went out.

Check the fan before anything else, cheapest and easiest solution.

Connection to the motherboard and every other component is solid.

No lights.

No noises.

Yes power supply is turned on.

Do power supplies just, poof and give out in a heart beat like that?

If it was the fan, wouldnt the comp still show signs of life? Same goes for motherboard, would there be no signs of life with anything?

I would do like everyone else said and check the PSU. But I had a problem one time where it was the board. A damm expensive board at that. I got an ECS i use for testing and can't kill that POS........lol My 250 dollar ABIT crapped out on me. I treated that skank good too.

So I took the hard drive out of the computer and put into another I had kicking around.

Errors come up when I try to run it. Anything you should do to the computer before you run it with a new hard drive in it?

unplug the comp and look for a reset switch on the PS. if no reset switch it will reset itself when you unplug/plug it back up. and yes a MB will die with no warning
