hey guys

I haven't really been posting much lately becuz of exams and school keeping me busy lately. but anyway, i was driving home the other day and my subs just up and quit. I had warmed the truck and system up cuz it was a bit of a cooler day. I was driving down the highway bumpin at volume 20 (of 50) on my deck with the sub out at +09. Then my subs quit hitting. I pulled over on the highway and quicjkly checked fuses and wires, all seemed in order. Now that I'm home, I've tested my amp, subs, deck, rca's and they ALL work individually. All the wires seem to be in good shape. The amp is still getting a signal from the remote such that it turns on with the deck like normal, but there is NO sub output whatsoever. I'm sure the ground is fine, as it's on bare metal bar stock i used to lift my back seat and hasn't (to my knowledge) given me trouble yet.

I put this seup in my truck in May and haven't had a prob...

So sorry this was a bit long but I'm trying to be thorough for ya. The local shops are baffled too, or at least the genuinely seem to be.

I need your vast knowledge or opinions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks

Hey Chevy, I'm getting a reading off the terminals, what kinda of numbers should I be seeing there? approx??

Do you mind telling me how to test the VC's?

The terminals should read varring numbers with music...depending on the amplifier, the terminals on the amps should jump anywhere from 0volts to around 40 volts (40 being with a high power amp), to test the coils on the sub, you can either touch the DMM to the speaker leads coming out of the box, or you can take the sub out of the box and test each individual coil (if it is DVC). How many subs do you have and what are the VC configs (DVC 2 or 4 or 6, or SVC 2, 4, 8) and how do you have the subs wired.

The rwadings I was getting were small at most 3 volts but I didnt turn it up too loud cuz my roomate just got home from work. I have 2 SVC 4 ohm woofers. They are bridged from the amp running in an 8 ohm load.

well what was the volume at...the voltage readings depend on the volume of the HU, at low volume you will get low readings...so test the subs, and see if they read 8 ohms at the amp. Also did you check the power terminals on the amp too...they should read 12V or 14-15 volts with the car on

is the amp getting power...have you actually but a DMM on the terminals, because fuses can be separted just enough to only allow about 7 volts through...which is enough to turn the lights on, but the amp wont play. Also have you checked the Voice Coils on the Subs???

i had a similar problem, my fuse was to close to my engine and the heat slowly seperated it, it would go on and off for about a month or so, but then one day it just quit.

hey,

i'm getting good power to the amp.

Should I have the system "playing" when I test for an ohm reading at the amp?

I'll double check the fuse under the hood....
