I have 4 12s getting 2K watts rms and my front stage is 4 Walmart JVC coaxials running off 16 watts rms of head unit power. My sub sounds fine but my mids and highs don't sound very clear and start to distort long before my subs do. Anybody know why? Any suggestions? No money left for a front stage amp so that's not an option. If I can find a head unit making a little more power would that solve the problem?

What kind of HU is it? Would it happen to have built in crossovers? If so they need turned on, another option would be to go to Parts Express and buy some inline crossovers.... if you can get the BASS outta the signal going to the speakers then they won't distort so soon.....

something like this:http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=266-160

or this one: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=266-464

2k vs 64 w/ walmart speakers and you wonder why it sounds bad?

This.
Try looking at the bottom line in your sig for reference.

Should've thought about this before dropping all your money into the substage?

So would better coaxials off a stronger head unit work? Right now I don't want to put the money into a front stage amp and would like to get the right sound without spending a butt load of money on components and more amps. Anybody wanna suggest anything that will get my front stage as loud as my substage without that much effort?

he doesnt even need that, if you aernt worried about fading just get a 2 channel, you are not going to get more than 16w out of the little chip amp built into the deck, there is a crossfire amp in the classifieds that is $50, it will do 100x2 at 2ohms, more than enough power

Hell no, a better HU will not work.

I meant, look at your sig for reference to the stupidity of even asking this.

You need an amplifier, and speakers to handle it. Otherwise it's not happening.

I'm willing to be the entry level JVCs he has won't benefit all the greatly from an amp.

Then again, NOTHING will compete with 4 12" subs. Heck, no single component set, think of the best you can imagine, can not even compete with 1 mediocre 12" sub running a commonly configured setup. It's simply physics. The only way any setup can compete is to step to a PA type of setup. However, the sizing isn't conducive for a car install. A 6.5" is a midrange, not a mid woofer. You'll be lucky to be functional below 200Hz with a PA oriented 6.5" driver. However, that's what's needed to compete with that many subs.
