Help Building First Box

After reading how much a custom box can make in terms of SQ and SPL I have decided to ditch my prefab and build my own.

However, I do have some questions.

First of all, here is my sub/amp

Sub- 12" Kicker C12VR (single)

Amp- Profile AP1000M (550 watts @ 2 ohms)

I want to go ported. I checked out a few of Moe Lester's plans and found this one http://img34.imageshack.us/my.php?image=2cubes32hz30sqin7cb.png. It is 2 Cubes @ 32 Hz.

Will this box give me a big difference in terms of SQ and SPL compared to my prefab?

Also, how do I go about tuning it to 32 Hz?

the size/dementions will give you the 32hz, you dont turn a knob and tune it. I assume the pre-fab is just a box and not tuned or anything special, and yes it will help in the spl/sq department.

Check the other threads in the 3 "school of wcc" sections. Very good info in there! Breaks everything down very simply. You will probaby need a scientific calc for it. I know I do, its been to long for me to do formula's like that by hand. How the box is tuned is made up of 2 things, the volume of the port and the volume of the box. The formula provide shows the mathmatical part of it. Hope this helps you a little bit..

I posted on another forum and got this response:

"For a few years now I've had my cvr 10 in 2 cubes tuned to I think 32~33hz; can't remember exactly. It sounds perfect to me and everyone else that hears it, sound quality is there as well as the spl; people swear there are two 12's in the trunk. Rock, rap, whatever it just works. So I'd say since yours is a 12 instead of a tune maybe increase the box to 2.2^3 tuned to 34 since 12's carry the lows better naturally."

Another memeber said he built a box and went with a 2 Cubic ft box with a 36 Hz frequency.

Now I am having second thoughts on what the frequency should be.

from what i hear on this site 33hz is a good all-around tune freq.
