Hey im applying for colleges and im wondering what are some good ones or atleast what type of courses i should be looking at..

Im interested in mainly 2 things:

Car Audio

Car Performance

(fabricating, modding)

im a hands on guy and like to build things, electronics and such...

so any suggestions on what colleges or courses i should look for?

I live In CA and staying near home within a few hundred miles is a must 8-/

any comments or suggestions?

Oh btw, i plan on taking 2 years of general classes in my community college first...

so the next few years of college after that will be more focused on what i want to be in life.

which i stated above.. and eventually start up a business after a few years.

for all of you whom posted usefull comments, i thank you...

Yes i am talking to my councilor but obviously she does not know much about cars...

Im in a private high school and most the preps here are going for law school or doctors degrees.

I do not know much about colleges yet, so that is why im asking the people that know their stuff.... (you guys)

I will look into these schools.

I am sort of familiar with uti so just need to do some research now.

Thanks guys

I went to a small private school. My advice is to do what you want....there's not many colleges out there offering car audio related degrees.

I felt I HAD to go to college because my small school pushed it hard, and everyone thought you were worthless if you didn't.

Now I'm taking my time going through school and working, because it makes me happier. Look for schools specializing in car audio. Don't even bother to get your 2 year degree until you have satisfied a car audio program, which is what you really want.

The degree will only help if you want to get into management, etc. Also check this link out.

this is a hard question.... but does anyone have any rough estimates on what someones salary could be as a car audio specialist...

this is a very broad subject...

but if you could list what you do as a career and how much you make would help me get an idea of whats going on

I went nd toured the UTI Orlando campus nd the place is amazing to say the least....20+ lifts nd a 4wd dyno....like 20+ classrooms tht are awesome inside...

I highly suggest going to UTI..

I think big box stores like Circuit City and Best Buy pay between 15-20 per hour for installers. I know I saw someone list a specific figure once, but I don't quite remember.

Private audio shops tend to charge at least $50 per hour for installation and such, but I'm not sure how that would get split up.

I have a friend who's down at UTI in Illinois right now. He really likes it.

That doesnt seem to bad does it?

Do you need to be certified to work as an installer at BB or CC?

I considered filling out an application for bestbuy as a temp job while im in highschool..

i know a great deal of computers, audio, and electronic related things.
