I have to install a new 2 guage power wire from my battery to my capacitor. Is there anything I need to be careful of and is it safe to disconnect the cap from the power and ground wire and then reattach it after I rebuild my box a rewire. Is the cap going to retain the charge while it sits out of the system? Thanks...

yes, it will hold it's source voltage. Dont short out the terminals together....or the + to ground.
