Help and Advice please

-ohm is the resistance, doesn't really affect sound, just affects what amp the speaker will work well with
Sccccreeeeeech pull the brake and stop here.

Ohms is highly reflective of how a system sounds. Infact I won't run a system unless I run it @ 8 ohms on the subs. The lower you go in ohms the choppier a system sounds. For persons like myself that like smooth bass transition with warm sound, 8 ohms is the only way to fly.

well the box isn't huge, but it's not small either, do you think that 12" can handle that amp?
post links to the sub and amp.

And if you get them take them to a local shop and have them set the amp up for you The gains and subsonic filter etc.

then i would need a bigger amp?

Thank you for the correction. That makes sense, just never heard anyone say it.

The bad thing for you is that to get 750 watts at 8 ohms it will cost you a bundle. If that is the route you want to go then google an amp that does 1500 at 4 ohms and that will put you about right for the wattage you are wanting to run.

Yeah he's not really going for SQ and he'll be getting a ton of corner loading reflection in a firebird so he might as well stay @ low ohms. What's "best" is what's best for that system and that car and that individual, otherwise there is no such thing.

SQ is really misunderstood and more times than not substituted for audiophile mistakenly. Basically everybody wants "good sound", but a small percentage really care enough or have enough money to try to do an SQ system, an even smaller percentage do an audiophile system primarily due to any decent one starting at about $10k.

My SQ system in my car is nowhere near audiophile, but it's geared towards music and not equipment so it's SQ. Mcintosh amps, Eclipse AVN head, Quart DVC tens, Audio Control processing, Focal mids. SQ is a poor mans audiophile. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif SQ can be had for $1500-ish buying used.

i see, and whats corner loading reflection?

and with the 12" i suggested, it would be 750 rms, and the amp is 1000 at 2 ohms, and 500 at 4ohms, so if i wire it parallel, it will do 1000? and series would be 500?

Yes, with a dual 4 ohm sub that would be right.

Im not familiar with corner loading reflection. Maybe that is when you put a home sub in the corner and use the corner for loading and what have you.

Corner load, hatch load, etc....... the use of the glass (in your case) to reflect sound which generally brings you up about 3db.

hmmm, but would that sub be able to take more then 750 rms?
If you want louder buy louder lol, Sometimes I run 3 times the rms to my subs, but its only for about 2 seconds.

Subs have a mechanical capacity and a thermal capacity. As you get in to it you will figure ore stuff like that out.

Ahh, If you have a hatchback maybe try a crx box, Sub up port back.
no idea what any of that means, i dont know much about boxes at all, the one i would use was already in teh car when i bought it, i can take a picture if you want

for any amp, if the wattage at 4-ohms isn't listed, is it always half of the wattage at 2 ohms?

Maybe make a post on what exactly you want out of your system, With a budget and what kind of car with what kind of electrical upgrades you are willing to do.

There are guys here that know 50 times more than I do that can probably get you to where you would be even happier than with the way you want to go now.

I don't think the system you want to go with now is bad but there are always options to consider.

Not always but it's a good rule of thumb to give you an idea.

And the crx box is good for hatchbacks because it does that wall reflecting you were talking about.
