Help and advice please

Hey guys, I need some help and opinions on this setup I got. I’m using a 4-channel amp and a stock head unit. I bought a line output converter to hook into the head unit to run my door speakers and a sub I’ll have as soon as I get it. I got the amp hooked up right as far as I know, I’m getting power on it and I have the remote tapped into a 12v wire on the radio so that when I turn the key on to accessory the amp comes on.

The problem I’m having is that I can’t get any sound from my speakers that are coming off the amp. Is it a common thing that a new line output converter could be bad? I hear the speaker pop on but no sound. The speakers that are running off the head unit still play fine. I’m going to more then likely take it to some place and have them look at it cause I can’t deal with it myself. I’ve been working on the whole setup the last few days of replacing all the speakers and hooking the amp up and now to have this problem, which just drives me nuts. The question is how much is the going rate to put in a line output converter if you got the amp and everything hooked up all ready? Also are line output converter normally a crappy way to go? If I have to I will buy a nice Alpine head unit or something if it will cost more to have a installer install the line output converter and figure it out. Need advice if you can help.

Are you certain that the gains on the LOC are set correctly?

There are many possibilities for cures for your problem and yes, getting a bad converter is one of those possibilities //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif Where'd you get the converter from?

As far as settings the gains go I did adjust the gains on the line output converter and on the amp, not at the same time though cause the line output converter is at the front and the amp is at the back. What kind of sign does the speaker popping on mean? This is my first install of any kind, just a fyi but as far as I know I did everything just like the manuals said. I'm just stumped and it sucks after getting everything else working the way I wanted it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif Any idea on how much a good install shop will charge to get the line output converter hooked up or could I get by with the local CircuitCity or BestBuy doing it?

how sure are you on the wiring?

I'm not 100% sure on the line output converter wiring, I was only working with the two 6x9 speakers in the doors. This is all new to me, car stereo stuff that is. I got the wiring info online and was going by that. It's going in a new 2007 Toyota FJ Crusier. I called Circuit City and they said to hook up a line output converter they charge $20 to $30, so I figure if that's all that's wrong with it I can handle paying someone to fix it. I more then likely could have fixed it myself given time, but the heat the last few days here and it being my daily ride meant I couldn't put more time into it. Either way if they get it fixed or not I'll let ya know how it turned out.

heh, wouldn't know, never had a problem putting mine in until i had money to buy a mp3 deck, but my stock radio wasn't all that bad off either, (stock cd player). but aftermarket is the way to go either way.

Update! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I took it by Circuit City this afternoon on the way home from work and had one of the guys there look at my install. Guy said everything looked good, said he never seen a line output converter like the one I had. He got one off the shelf and hooked it up and now I'm back in business. Sounds great to, now I'm just waiting on my 12" Memphis sub and I'll be all set!
