Ok guys, I've already decided that I cannot stand the system that is going to be in my new car. (I don't have it yet, It's custom ordered, due in 11/1).

My background: used to be in car audio up until about 5 years ago. Shop I worked for carried some pretty nice stuff. PPI, Tube Driver (love!), MBQ, Xtant, JL Audio, Eclipse (before they went to crap), Diamond, etc. my personal preference is to Sound Quality. I just want it to sound balanced, clean, and crisp, without overkill.

Factory Sizes are as follows:

Front: 200mm woofer = 7.89" 25mm Tweeter = .98", on bose midrange is 80mm, = 3.15"

Rear: 165mm woofer = 6.49" 25mm tweeter =.98"

factory bose also has a center fill and sub, but I'm not getting that option (crap), and I'm not worried about them, as far as factory locations go.

space in the car is very limited, so the amplifiers must have a small footprint. the focus of the system is more SQ biased than anything else. personal preference is to a system with good mid bass - mid range performance along with crisp clean high's.

Here is what I have in mind, as far as equipment goes.

MB Quart RVF216's front and rear. ( I have a bias to MBQ, as when I was in the car audio biz, that's what you got, from what I can tell with my research, maxxonics buyout really hasn't affected the way MBQ operates, so the Quality should be there)

Sub -- Pioneer 8" TS -SW841D shallow depth sub. I've heard it and been impressed. very small but good performance. ,really torn (would like to do something in a JL) but since space is an issue, not much choice.

Amplifier(s) here is where I am having trouble.

Alpine PDX series, 4.100 and 2.150(bridged) paired with a JL Cleansweep for a good input signal. (I can't change HU, if you've seen the car, you know why)

also been looking at a new Blaupunkt amp line that is just coming out. in particular the THA555PnP. Blau is not something I'd normally consider, but the spec's are promising, and the're really small and it's a 5 channel, which is a big plus for space reasons. the cleansweep would also be used with it as well.

Ok, that's it. give me your opinions, alternatives and suggestions, looking for input!

jl makes a shallow mount sub that can take 900 rms, it's pricey though.

those pdx amps have a small foot print, solid choice.

you can do better than those mbqs, try: rainbow, focal, cdt, morel, etc...assuming price isn't an issue here, and I doubt it is if you're getting a new tt. i'd rather go with an a3, a4, s4, a6, but that's me...lol

not super familiar with Rainbow, other than reading comments on some of the boards. educate me -- what line should I look at, pricing, where to buy, etc. not looking to go real high end, If I wanted to do that, I'd just get the 3 way Dynaudio system. let say, max of $500 for fronts. rears should be a coax, thats why I chose RVF's, they car go both ways. sub wise, If I wanted to go pricey I'd just do a custom fiberglass enclosure for a single JL 8 or 10w3.

i don't have any hands-on experience with rainbows, but i'm sure someone else would clue you in on that. i doubt anybody would recommend those mbqs to you, though. you should be able to get a pair of rainbows and some filler coaxes for under $500, no problem. you have other options in the cost effective shallow mount sub department, depends on what you're looking for. kicker also makes a shallow mount sub that is supposed to be just like the cvr, but thinner. it will get louder than the pio, probably sound just as good doing it. again, same price range. and if you wanted to go the glassing route, you could get some 8/10"s that will sound really good at not too steep of a price. it's the glassing that will hurt the wallet. although, after splurging on the tt, you probably are in the red. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

ok, so I'm liking the rainbows....any reccomendations on what line I should look at? any reviews from the press etc? I've only heard about the geraniums, so I'm pretty unfamiliar with the line in general.....

Yeah go for some Rainbows. I'd stick with the Alpine amps compared to the Blau. Also, as far as that little pioneer sub; if you like it okay but I don't tihnk it will do much for you. I'd look at like the RL-i8 (I am currently finishing up my fiberglass enclosure for one), AA8, ID8.

OK so any suggestions on which line? is everything they make great, and I should just try and match up power output/rms or should I target a specific model/line and get adaquate amplification? looking at 6 1/2 comps, however something larger can be accomodated.

agreed on everything

PDX amps

Rainbow Comps

And any of those 8s(Subs) listed

That would sound //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

yup tube driver. that 2 x150 was the best sounding amp I've ever heard. on the right

set of comps you almost didn't need to turn on a sub in our sound room.

so sound line or dream line would be ok? would ideally have matched set of comps and coax's, unless you guys think it doesn't matter.

for sure go with the pdx amps. component wise you want to go 2 way or 3 way? and i know alot of guys knock them on here but for a sub you could go with elemental designs and run either 2 7kv.2's or a 9kv.2 or even the sq10 they all dont require big enclosures.

If you're going to go with Rainbow, I wouldn't go any lower than the Germaniums. You said you wanted SQ, and the Germs are the beginnings of their SQ competition grade comps. I have a set, and love them. The tweeter is awesome!

If you also want coaxes, I've actually heard really good things about the Rainbow SL 165's. I haven't heard them with my own ears, however. But I suspect they would blend reasonably well with a set of Germs (or higher if you choose).

The dealers on here can get you any of the Rainbow speakers for significantly less than those prices advertised on that web site a few post back.
