help a noob with a high end sq setup

thanks for the links

and i think it might be a good thing that 100 sq ft will only do the floor because after reading the article bout deadners it seems that the stuff i got is asphalt and would probably only be good for the floor, so i guess i better be planning on prying a few more dollars from the old wallet before all is said and done.

I know this is a brand most people don't think of because it makes such a good SPL sub but TREO SSX's a extremely accurate. The 15's and the 12's I heard were both the cleanest and loudest subs I ever heard at like half wattage (1000ish). As for the amp? I have no Idea. I'm thinking though that you could run a twelve with a good 750w amp in a sealed box and it would be perfect for you. I would also invest in a gain knob, an eq, and sound deadening. That way, when you're listening to rap and want to impress your friends you can bump it but when you're driving to work, listening to that Avril Lavigne CD you stole from your cousins daughter that you play every morning on your way to work you can turn the bass down to match the rest of the system.

Another option is this. I believe you said you have 6.5's and tweeters? Front and rear? If that's the case you could also consider using some 8" midbass speakers as your subwoofers. Just put them in some small sealed enclosure and I bet you that would sound pretty **** nice.

the first question i will ask you is " what kind of music you listen too?" if you like me and a sq guy that listens to everything from rap to hip hop to clasical to alt to hawaiian to country. then most of the subs mentioned is not for you. i mean to each his own. but i've owned quite a few of subs and always tried to keep everything sql. the only sub that i can't say anything about is the rainbow sub because that was next on my list but i just fell in love with my curent subs that i didn't feel the need to change. anyways back on topic. if i was you and i listen to a wide array of music. i would sell the cdt's and get some rainbows for mids and highs. anything from the soundline and up. then for subs i would get either a alumapro alchemy or some focals. i would put them in to a sealed box and cross them at 100 with a 12 db. box size for the alumapro 12" is about 1 cu. for te focal 12" is .75cu. the alumapro has more snap to the music and can handle playing high bass and is very smooth. the only draw back i noticed is at about 45-50 the suound is about a - 1-2db. other than that it's a nice smooth sound. oh and off of about 400w rms you can hit 135 db and stay clean. with the same power the focals can do about the same, maybe 3-5 db's lower. the only draw back i see from the focals is that the sub's lower end has a +1-2 bd at about 35-40. so it's a little give and take. anyways take this advice with a grain of salt. i'de list what i'm running but the list is long. i decided to go diy rout and have not turned back since then. =)

ps, and rear fill is prefrence. try fading all your speakers to the front and take a listen. that's about how it will sound without rear fill. but imagine bass comming from the back of the car. you can kind of tell the difference from where the music is comeing from. i always use rear fill in my setup cause i just sounds much nice to be in the middle of the musice then have the music come from the front and bass come from the back. i have yet to hear a car that doesn't have rear fill that i like. =)

If you have "bass coming from the back", there's a problem with the way the system is set up. True subbass is omnidirectional, ideally you should not be able to localize where a sub is in the vehicle, if at all. Very low crossover points help here, in a "high end SQ setup" like the OP's talking about, he should have significant output from the midbasses down to about 50Hz...the sub really should only be taking care of the lowermost octave.

And as for rear fill, I've got a thing for you to try. Go listen to your setup with a disc such as IASCA's demonstration CD...and try to see how close you can get to all the staging cues with rear fill turned on //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

you know this is something i have to try. didn't like the whole front stage thing. maybe cause i like to be in the middle of the music or it's just the whole surround sound i like. but i can't judge it before i try it. you never know i might just change my mind. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif so where do i find that cd? or is anyone willing to send me a copy of that cd?
