help a noob how to connect a amp

It could work, but its not a great idea. Generally an MP3 Player puts out a really small amount of power from the output jack. Talking milivolts. What's probably going to end up happening is, u'll probably plug it in, but it would be really low. So u'll turn the gains up on the amp, till where it get's "Loud enough" But at that point the amplifier will be clipping, and the end results are either 1.U blow the amp, 2. U blow ur speakers due to a clipped signal. Better to get a HU with a Aux input that u can plug ur MP3 player into. Or if ur MP3 player is USB, get a headunit with USB input.

yea I know that about the low output thing

but just gonna use the amp with some lousy speakers and a car battery all built in i box..I dont have to sound good just loud

if the output from the mp3 is to low i have a small headphone amp that i could use..

but i should work with that cable?

It should work, yes. I use a CD player or MP3 player to test if static from the speakers is cuse of the RCAs from the headunit. Like i said, as long as ur dont crank ur gains all the way to the point where it's clipping u should be okay.

ok thanks

but I have to use a cable like that

theres now way I can connect a 3.5mm to 2rca and get sound on all 4 speakers?

hehe

Umm... no. The amp will be driven into clipping if you turn up the gain higher than you should for the given input voltage. If the input voltage is really low, you will have to crank the gain to get the same output but that doesn't mean it will be clipping. He has the same exact chance to clip the amp whether it's on an 8v pre-amp line or a 8mv line. Actually, there is a better chance of clipping with the higher input voltage.

I have an input source that is so low, I can max the gains on my amp in my room and it will not clip and does not even do full power at max volume. The input signal is just too low.
