Hello everyone I'm new(old) and wanting help

Ok I got you on the subs thing. So can you name a couple that have that sound of the old Rockford power series back when they were the Pulp cones before they went into the plastic stuff they use today.

Yeah brands like SSA, DD, American Bass, Sundown aren't bad but there's a difference between SPL subs that "can" sound okay VS subs that are actually geared towards SQ/Music.

If you want subs that are actually engineerred to be accurate/tight, flat response, low distortion, and easily blend with your front stage then i'd be looking at stuff like Adire Audio Brahma/Tumult, Stereo Integrity SQL, IDmax. If you wanted something with amazing SQ but can actually move some air on lower power then incriminator flatlyne is a damn good sub (one of my all time favorites).

You literally have the biggest advantage for output which is box size (dual 15s is a ton of cone space for a car). As a result you don't have to chase output via buying subs that have ultra big magnets or are peaky.

Diamond audio’s D6 was one of my favorite sounding subs I’ve ever owned. Not really sure if it’s technically considered an “sq” sub, but it fit in a small ported box, and to my ears, was loud, accurate, and had basically zero mechanical noise through the port. I also ran a focal polyglass sub for a time that was also an excellent sounding sub. It wasn’t super loud, but it was very accurate and blended in with my front speakers very well. It was an 11 inch sub if I remember correctly. This was a decade ago, so a lot of the guys here will have more recent experience with the newer sub models. Right now, I’m on a Dayton audio kick, and I’m super impressed with those as well at their price. I’ve had a dayton audio ultimax 8 on my shop table for a couple of weeks, and in the free air of my shop, it is impressing me immensely. I have it in a 4th order bandpass box. I hesitate to give a full review of it until I have it in my vehicle, as the sound will change in vehicle as opposed to free air, but that little 8 is Impressive so far. I will also be running the Dayton DSP in my vehicle, with an iPad as my head unit, assuming the Bluetooth dongle on the DSP works like I want. im excited to try out the DSP. It will be my first venture into digital signal processing, but reading what alot of guys here say in other threads, it’s totally worth the extra work of tuning it.

Thanks for the input I will try to give a look at all the subs mentioned to get the one that suits my build best, but I don't want to give the wrong impression I'm not specifically looking for an SQ sub or SPL

From my current state of mind I thought that each brand some more than others have an SQ line, SQL line, and an SPL line... And from reading forums it seems that if you are looking for the best sub that is not and SPL geared line. That the one looking has to stay under 2500 rms subs, because after that you have subs with spiders that will produce more SPL while losing it quality. It's so many options out there and I have been out of the game for a while, so it is very difficult to get back in when each top company has 18 different subs to pick from. So any knowledge will be useful to me. Thanks in advance bro.

I'm pretty much Sundown and SSA as far as subs go these days. Can't go wrong with either. Personally I'd put a taller tire on the truck like a 39".

Haha... I see your like me out here naming these oldie but goodies. I looked up that Diamond audio’s D6 and I think the newest video was 8 years old. You too like me need to be present in this thread to see what the new toys are that we can put in. The old stuff is good especially the amps, but if we can find the right new woofers it blows not all but most of the older woofer out of the park. I will still check out the others you named just headed to bed now I have to be up at 3am... Thanks again bro.

Hahaha. Right. I rolled with that sub for at least 6 years. It just wouldn’t frickin die. As I got older, I just didn’t change audio equipment out enough to get to know the new stuff. When I was younger I had a new sub every 6 month.

Hey bud happy to see you here as well you are another guy who opinion I value from all my google searches... I think as far as Sundown I really would only go with an SA 15 or a U 15... I'm not a huge fan of the high wide rolled surround they scare me, because I don't know if a woofer really needs to more that much to be loud. I prefer woofers with a parabolic looking surround. I grew up with Kickers you could hear 3-4 blocks away and they were not big on excursion and got loud and sounded great. As far as SSA I like the Icon, Zcon, and the Evil. I'm just worried the z-con and evil will not be as musical as I want them.

Also as far as the truck I don't know what wheels and tires will be on it next but I will be moving up to an 8-10" would axle swap with full coilovers all the way around, so 39's or 40's may just find there way under there soon. Thanks again for any info that you take the time to share bro.

Right and then it was way less options so it made picking easier... If you wanted more or increase SPL you just added more of the same woofers... Now it's like each company is Baskin-Robbins you have 31 flavors
