Hello everyone I'm new(old) and wanting help

My system will be in a 1997 2 dr Tahoe white with grey interior 6" lift with 22x12 on 35x15.50r22 tires.

My end goal is to build a daily driver that sounds better than great and can be turned up for long periods of time when needed with out worrying and coils, amps or power(batteries). This is not an over night build, but will be completed in stages.

Current head unit is a Pioneer 80 prs JBL GTO 6.5 component system 2 sets on a 4 channel Synergy 8.4D amp. Along with two 12" Kicker Comp R's on a Synergy WFO 2.1D @ 4 ohms

The next stage will be what I need help with the most. I think I want to run a nice 3- way up from either Morel or Legacia. With one set of components(2 way) in the rear. Not looking for a full SQ build here at all just a mean, CLEAN street sound.

And subs are my biggest need. I'm interested in the 2- SSA Icon 15" and the 2- DD 3515. I'm not a fan of extra large enclosures, but I'm willing to go maybe 7 cu.ft. something that will be below the rear windows and have space for the port to breathe in a subs up, port back configuration. My max limit on sub wattage is 2500 rms per sub since I only want this for street and it would not see a meter except for giggles. Output and great filling sound is at the top of my check list and not SPL.

I want to build something more sound quality loud than anything else. I don't like the sound of all subs the older Kicker Comp VR with the gold cone and the Rockford Power line from back in the day are my favorites. I did recently hear an American Bass set up that reminded my of how the Rockford's use to amaze me, but he didn't know what subs he had. Subs I can not stand the sound of are the JL w7 or the Eclipse one with the aluminum cone. To me they both sound floppy or muddy or like something deep and powerful is missing in the center. Almost like it's a big hole in the middle of the woofer. IDK just my opinion on them. Sorry if either one of these is a favorite of someone here.

Electrical with be handled by a lithium battery bank with under hood battery delete and I'm also looking into alternators right now there are so many more available than just a Mechman these days.
So suggestions on the amp hours and alternator amps would be great advice as well. Thanks in advance everyone.

DSP is going to have a night and day difference on your front stage, I would look into those (entry level ones have gotten alot cheaper in the last 2 to 3 years).

If you don't like the sound of the W7 then the SSA and DD subs you listed won't blow you away (don't get me wrong there both better but they won't be a dramatic shift). If you want a more low distorition and more accurate sub then you'd be looking at something like an Adire Audio Brahma 15 or an IDmax 15

Ok so as far as DSP I know it's one of the older models, but I hear going and was thinking about the JL audio twk 88 system. But can you explain why the 2 subs mentioned would sound bad? I don't run into a lot of subs that just sound horrible as I feel the w7 and Eclipse do. And honestly from what I have been searching the SSA icon seems to be the number one recommended sub on the internet forums.

I also thought about the Massive Audio Hippo XL 15 and the Resilient Sounds Platinum 15. But I have not heard any of the few subs I'm interested in only knowing them from YouTube and searching the forms.

SSA Icon 15s for subwoofers would be a good choice.
If you are planning on active 3 way front stage I would upgrade from your 80prs to a good DSP.
80ah Yinlong LTO bank and a 390 amp alt would be enough to not have to worry about electrical. I like DC Power for alternators since they use billet cases and brand new parts for every alternator.

Hey what's up bro. I really appreciate you taking the time to chime in I definitely value your opinion towards my build, because I have seen you pop up in ALOT of the threads that have come up in my searches online. Do you have a suggestion on DSP outside of the JL twk 88 that I mentioned when I responded to my first reply?

Thank you. I have no life

The Dayton DSP is very popular right now. Very good for the price.

Not sure on the specifics on that particular JL DSP but that's good that your planning on adding one. Dayton DSP is good for lower budget daily drivers (if your not competing you won't need anything super crazy).

But can you explain why the 2 subs mentioned would sound bad? I don't run into a lot of subs that just sound horrible as I feel the w7
I never said they would sound bad. I personally have zero issues with any of the subs listed ( W7, Icon, or DD3500 series) assuming there used in the right situation

I was simply stating if you don't particular like the demographic that the W7 is targeting (high output with above average SQ) then the 3500 series or Icon won't exactly blow you away. You might do better with a more sound quality focused sub like the Brahma or the IDmax

LoL, don't even talk about not having a life here...I drive semi trucks so I only get to enjoy my cars roughly about two weekends out of the month. But I have been into sound systems since the early 90s and that is why I'm willing to put money into something I rarely even get to enjoy. Thanks again and I guess a Dayton DSP it will be. Do you think I should look into a new head unit I just sent my 80 PRS into pioneer for a warranty repair because she smoked out on me after only 3 months of use?

Ok I got you on the subs thing. So can you name a couple that have that sound of the old Rockford power series back when they were the Pulp cones before they went into the plastic stuff they use today.

If you like the 80prs just stick with it and run it in standard mode instead of network mode since you will be using the Dayton DSP.

If you don't care for the 80prs just find a head unit that has features you like and easy usability. Don't need any special crossovers or EQ since the Dayton DSP will take care of all that.

Thanks for explaining that it will need to be ran in standard mode going through the DSP. Because if you did not tell me hopefully the guy at the audio shop would have lol.

All I had on my mind was network, network, Network...

Also what would be the most continuous wattage that I would want to push through these subs on a daily without any worries being that they are rated at a conservative 1,250 RMS?

I've heard SSA Icons, Z cons, X cons and liked all of them.

DD put a bad taste in my mouth when I tried to buy from them years ago. They are "dealer only" based and I had zero dealers any where near me. They wouldn't help me at all trying to ask them a few questions to order directly from them.

Also what is the max that I can push through each of those Icon woofers daily without worrying about them.

I had a local guy with a full Massive audio build. I can't remember if they were XLs or just Hippos but they were very similar to Soundqubed HDC3s and the American Bass equivalent. They are decent but do require pretty large boxes and not the most "musical" subwoofers. I would run Icons over them personally.

SSA makes great products though.

Hard to say as I've never ran them personally and clamped actual power output. I'm sure they would be fine on 1500rms clamped daily without getting hot. A 5k on two would probably be perfect after impedance rise.

Thanks hearing "musical" makes all the difference or else I would just go with the biggest and best woofers I can put power behind.

Thanks I definitely needed that heads and will put all the info to good use and hopefully this helps someone else as well since we touched on quite a few subs I know a lot of other people are looking at as well.
