lol last time i went i asked the guy to listen to some subs, so he turns up some power acoustik's ALL the way up, when i try to tell him hes completly destroying the subwoofers (there wanging hardcore + hear them bottoming out + sounds like crap) and hes like nah man, thats just how loud they are!
i guess when you actually buy the stuff and get a warrenty it dosent matter how much you abuse the equipment because you can simply return it!

my friend ran his l5s into the ground one day just so he could go to BB and return them for some new ones

he bought 2 15s + a huge custom box + an amp from best buy lol

Up until, a couple of weeks ago, I thought the people at best buy were retarted as could be. However, I talked to someone who actually knew more then what was out in front of him. I was looking at the alpines and we were talking and he said, "are you looking for a new head unit?" I replied, "No, I have an 8053 I'm good." He goes, "ahhh yes eclipse very nice."

I was actually amazed he knew something other then alpine, kenwood, or pioneer!!

I believe there's another way to prevent clipping, too. Its a feature on some McIntosh hifi amps known as an autoformer, and it's on the outputs.

It's a pretty interesting idea. It lets the amp output a specific amount of power, regardless of lowering resistance. The idea is to produce a smoother response when the speaker its driving nears its impedance spike; power output stays stable rather than jumping up to meet the lower resistance.

Now, wether or not any car audio amps have autoformers on the outputs, or how well it actually works in practice I have yet to see. But theoretically.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Also, most of the techs working in the best buy audio section are young fellow hobbyists, often with systems of their own. A friend of mine has this job and he knows a fair bit more than than your average consumer. But even still, bring up Ω and he gets confused. (despite my repeated explanations :\ )

It's merely connivence taking over. Go to Best Buy to get a new CD, computer, big screen TV, subwoofer, digicam all in one trip rather than going to a specific shop that specializes in each of those categories. You'll get better equipment (and probably pay more) going to an audio shop, or a digital camera store, but because its what they do you'll have a much more informed decision and get what you really want, sacrificing connivence and probably a few $$.

The most extreme example i can think of is Walmart, who's goal seems to be able to sell you anything (and everything) in the world, so long as its junk. :\ Long live the little guys!
