today when i installed one of my old headunits (alpine cda-7892) in my beater i ran into a weird problem. the back speakers work fine (stock) but when i hook the front speakers (cdt ef-61) up the sound completely cuts out until the fronts are disconnected. im pretty stumped on this problem since the headunit is correctly installed, and there are no shorts in any of the wiring. it almost seems like the internal amp is getting overloaded. any suggestions?

What's the max ohm load on the Alpine Unit? What's the ohm load on the speakers? Are they mixed up? Are the speakers working fine on the bench?

That's what I would look at first...

Sounds like a wiring problem to me. Either that or a short inside the HU.

Double check the wiring again. I have put a screw through one of my component's speaker wires before. Thank god for the protection circuit on the amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
