Headunit less system

i rember there was a head unit less set up some company sold. it was a box you can mount anywhere. the box had 4 pre outs and it had a controler with a volume adjust that you could hook up a ipod or what ever to. does any one know what im talking about.

or on the other hand does any one have any headunit less solutions?

Well you could technically run any amp/sub setup off and Ipod or the like without an HU unless the amp only had high level inputs, and even then it could still be done just not as easily.. Any basstube would fit your description. Is any of it worth the money? No not at all. Do it right the first time.

I just use my ipod no headunit, its free. you do have to buy the cable which is like $7

Would an Ipod supply the preout voltage needed? I was always under the impression itd be better to run the Ipod into the EQ / Line driver, then out to amp's, then to speakers.

Use something like an Audio Control Three.1 EQ, get an iPod cable (from Apple or Peripheral/iSimple) that plugs into the bottom of it (the Peripheral/iSimple one will charge it too if you hook it to pwr/gnd, and makes it a fixed signal so you don't have to worry about the volume on your iPod) and gives you RCA out into the EQ and it will give you F/R/S out... it's also a line driver, so will give you enough signal for some good SQ to your amps, sub volume, master volume, fader, three bands of equalization , variable bass boost, and crossovers!!!!!! This is a very good way of doing this.
