headunit install (95 lincoln mark viii)

I'm helping a buddy install a head unit in his car. Problem is, when we try to hook up the speaker outputs on the head unit, we get no sound. We have tried more than one head unit so i know thats not the problem. His car comes stock with a JBL sound system. My question is whether or not his car has a built in amplifier that we'll have to bypass to make the head unit work.

I'm hoping someone knows more about this car before we go tearing things apart.

There is a OEM amp mounted between the rear speakers in the trunk.

LOL ya they are a big pain man but once you have done a few you have done them all.

the factory amp sounds like crap being run on the deck power ....too much input...it really needs an amp bypass harness....

wow its still like that. i had an 87 for t-bird turbo coupe that has a factory jbl system and it also had an amp between the rear speakers. it also had to be bypassed for the speakers to work right.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif
