headphone thread

only thing I've heard about shure is the upper end is sort of flat sounding. I'm sure I could EQ that out easy enough though.
if u have the right music player an eq can work wonders....if u are using these off an ipod ur just wasting ur money...IPOD Sound QUALITY & EQ is ****** SHIT

Listen to some good ones off of an amplifier and you will see why. I think I'm going to go with the shures. I think I'll wait to see if they have any xmas sales first though.

700 bucks for ear buds. stupid. i paid 200 for a set of turtle beach x4s with dolby surround sound. best bass ive heard outside of a car. wireless. and work for your gaming device with very high quality mic.

A guy running a mcintosh banner shouldn't be talking about prices lmao

To me a set of cans that need batteries and a mic attached are pointless. I'm trying to get something to replace my monitors so I don't get bitched at anymore.

Best thing you can do for your IEM's is to get ear molds made at an audiologist. They can have the mold incorporate flat filters and IEM shafts. The supplied generic inserts are hit and miss. I paid about $70 for the mold and flat 15dB filters. They are perfect for concerts, but I use them for work when I trouble shoot mechanicsl equipment noise issues in the field.

The molds fit Shure IEM's well, and a variety of other IEM's. isolation and response is greatly improved with a perfect fit, and listening fatigue (physical) is diminished.

As far as which ones to get, I have found it is largely personal preference and budget. I like cans, but cans that feel nice. Sennheiser HD580 and HD600 are great open back headphones, for the money. HD380PRO are good closed back cans. Grado and Beyerdynamic are also good.

I've been rocking my AKG k501's for 10 years now. I've tried a number of alternatives but these have been the best balanced to my ears. Plus they are comfy, I've worn them for over 10hr without fatigue.

Headphones are just like all audio products. Very personal tastes involved. If possible, try as many as you can to narrow the search if you're spending a good chunk of cash on 'em.

Yes. It's one of those fundamental truths I somehow manage to unlearn every time I figure it out.
