Head Unit Questions

Hello, first time posting here

I am upgrading the HU in my 2017 Forte for my SQ build. Have narrowed it down to 2 i think, Either the Kenwood Excelon DMX907S or Pioneer DMHC5500NEX. Only real difference it looks like is the Kenwood has 5v Preamp and Pioneer is 4V. I can get the pioneer on sale for $690CAD and the kenwood for $799. Does the 1v difference justify the $120 difference?

Also this might be a stupid question but I am using an Arc Audio X2 600.4 and the Input sensitivity is 200mV - 3.5v. How Will the new HU work if it is either 4 or 5v?

Are you planning on an external DSP since you are doing an SQ build? If so I would just find a cheaper headunit with the features you want and spend the rest on a good DSP. The Kenwood does have wireless Apple car play/Android auto though.


If your amp can only take up to 3.5 volts you can just run the headunit at a lower volume or turn down the RCA output level.

OH OH... I got this. Kenwood eXcelon's are good to full volume with no distortion. The volume should go to 40. My Rockford Fosgate 3Sixty.3 DSP wanted a 2v input from the head unit. As you know and have stated, the Kenwood is 5v. This 5v is at a volume of 40 out of 40. 2v is 36 out of 40. Mine is a Kenwood eXcelon DMX706S. Hope this helps.

Yes I will be adding a DSP some time down the road once I save up enough for a decent one. Today bought the Kenwood excelon DMX907S. Thanks for your help!
