HDTV's Plasma vs DLP.. opinions

the DLP chips are only made by TI, so you're gauranteed a well-made part.

some older (slower) DLP chips give people headaches, and if you're watching something with a lot of action, where you're moving your eyes back and forth across the screen, you'll actually see the red, green, and blue images seperate.... it's really distracting.

the 1x and 2x wheels are notorious for this. some people still see it with 3x..... 4x is honestly pretty good, unless you've got a seriously huge screen, i think they go all the way to 6x now, and then they go to seperate green, red, and blue chips

And the colorwheels are in different configurations, as well. The original ones were 3 color, and then they made a 4 color (with a white section) for better contrast. Now there's 4 segment, 6 segment, 8 segment wheels, i don't even know what other configurations exist anymore.

Just don't buy it without watching it for a while.

im really set on that 61" samsung DLP 1080p:yumyum:
very good tv look in the xbr1 or even the newer xbr2 i have the 60" xbr1 i paid 3,500 for it could be cheaper now but it had the best picture quality i have seen on a rear projection tv....

also bulbs are around 200 they last anywehre from 4000-7000 hours and eazy to replace

look at cnet for some reviews

also rear projection use around 200-300 watts

okay now onto plasma

50" 1080p pioneer has better picture quality then my xbr1 but its 8 grand

also plasmas tend to use 2x the electricity

but the vieving angle is much better on plasmas on projection tvs you got to be almost infront of it

whatever you buy dont forget to get an hd-dvd player better picture quality then hd cable big time. more consistent good picture quality then blue ray and cheaper then blue ray players.

ty for the reply.. i think im gonna go w the samsung dlp.. seems hi quality and a few hundred bux every 5 yrs is nothn compared to the quality of HD to me

Who told you Plasma's only last 4-6 years?!?!?!
I agree with Tylantyr. I deliver electronics for a living. We are constantly exchanging plasmas for either LCDs' or DLPs' because they have gone out. The customer usually purchases our extended 5yr warr. and it pays off in the end. I have seen very few plasmas make it past out warr.

I highly reccommend either the Samsung, the Sony SXRD, or the new Mitsubishi DLPs'. All are great TVs, its all your preference. Good luck!

I wouldn't buy an LCD unless it was a panasonic, or an LCOS.

Most lcd projectors suffer from bad contrast ratios, very noticeable pixel seperation, or screendoor effect, and either lower bulb life, or lower brightness depending on the model.

The colors are generally nicer than DLP's (although this becoming less-so with the new 6+ colorhweels, and greater colorwheel speeds) and LCD's picture will actually fade over time, because the light actually shines THROUGH the LCD panels, which fades them gradually.

Panasonic makes hands down the best traditional LCD projection display that i've ever seen, and the new LCOS loses some sharpness compared to traditional LCD, but has better life, and less noticeable pixelation.
